i don’t chase light. i read it.

no condition is necessarily better than another: golden hour, overcast skies, a single window in a dark room. each one just asks something different from me.

spring in the pacific northwest has this quiet diffused glow that turns a room into something you’d hang on a wall. as a seattle wedding photographer that’s all i need.

she’s drinking straight from the bottle and honestly? this is exactly my kind of couple.

a bride mid-swig, a groom squat-posing like he’s in a music video, a wedding party losing it in the best way. this is what it looks like when people actually let loose on their wedding day. no stiff lineup against a wall. just pure, unscripted chaos that somehow looks like art.

i’ll always carve out time for editorial portraits. but this? this is the heart of what i do. real moments, real people, real fun, and i’m just there to catch it.

this is the energy i look for in every couple i work with. the ones who trust me enough to just live their day while i document it.

when these two worlds became one, the energy is electric!

the ruins seattle is genuinely unlike anywhere else. hand painted murals covering every wall, chandeliers everywhere. it’s amazzzing!

these two brought their whole families together and it was just — a lot. in the best way. the kind of wedding where you’re trying to document everything and also just trying to take it all in.

i also shot video clips on my brand new fuji instax evo cinema and i am obsessed. that grungy, saturated 80s video look? that’s just what one setting does. i’m not getting over it anytime soon.

this is why i do this work as a seattle wedding photographer and filmmaker. nights like this, in rooms like this, with people like these! congrats to r & g!

ohhh this is a MOOOOOOD!

this dark, moody seattle editorial content day feels like a fever dream at the intersection of an outdoor speakeasy and a botanical garden….and i am obsessed!

deep chocolate silk draping pooled against the pacific northwest trees. amber roses and hydrangeas spilling over linen the color of bitter cocoa. an espresso martini tower dressed in satin ribbon, because some couples skip the champagne and do things their way, and i am here for every second of it.

this seattle wedding photography styled shoot was built for the couple who wants their day to feel like a moment – not a template. dark florals, moody color palettes, and editorial details that belong in a magazine and also on your vision board at 1am. this is what luxury wedding photography in seattle looks like when you throw out the rulebook and lean all the way in.

‼️ BANGER ALERT ‼️

so this was first time shooting at this bellingham washington wedding venue, and i’m already plotting my return. this styled content day was designed within an inch of its life: cocktail towers stacked high, delicate and soft florals, and table details that very pure romance. the design was impeccable, and the manor just held all of it so perfectly.

and our models? a real couple. which means every single look they gave each other was exactly that.

q***r and lgbtq+ weddings are some of my absolute favorites to photograph and this styled one had everything. romantic, editorial, a little maximalist in the best possible way. the kind of love that looks good from every angle, in every light, on film and digital both.

hey! it’s me, julie, taking a selfie on film in spain a few years ago! xo

soooooooo…my wedding season this summer is rather strange and a bit light in early summer and very heavy towards the end and my planned september vacation has now been pushed forward to end of june and july! those are two months are i haven’t traveled in for leisure in over 8 years!

the agenda will be to see sophia on the italian riveria where she now lives and then hop on over to the croatian coast. from the mediterranean to the adriatic sea in early summer? i’m pinching myself.

here are some back and white film photos i have taken over the years on my overseas travels during off season months where black and white matched the mood. after looking at these and many others, i am going to shoot more back and white film this year at weddings bc it truly is a very different vibe and one close to my elder goth heart. 🖤🤍

✨ somewhere between a renaissance fair, a d&d gathering, and the best party you’ve ever crashed, there was a micro wedding. at thornewood castle. in full costume. with a magician. because of course there was! 🪄

d&d inspired games on one side, a packed dance floor on the other, the entire crowd in from texas bringing all their renaissance faire costuming. it was so much fun!

as a seattle wedding photographer, i don’t often get to document a wedding where the venue, the couple, and every single guest are in complete harmony. thornewood castle in lakewood washington is built for exactly this. stone turrets, gothic tudor architecture, ancient ivy, grounds that feel lifted from another century. the most unique wedding venue in washington for couples who have a whole world to share.
this is what it looks like when two people just build the wedding they actually want. many happy returns to e & d! ❤️

spring called. we answered. 2020 edition.

this session with sophia back during the world was closed and we needed to fill our veins with something creative as an outlet. this felt like stepping inside a dream…soft bloom and prism work casting that hazy diffused glow that makes everything feel a little unreal in the best way. everything i wanted this portrait session to feel like to contrast the reality of the day.

if you’re planning a spring engagement session, wedding, or portrait session and want imagery that lives in the soft, dreamy, blooms-everywhere world – this is your moment. seattle springs are fleeting and genuinely magical. the light right now is unreal. and the world isn’t in much better shape but we can radically push back with creativity and joy. 💕
