Fun fact about me…
I wanted to be an ASL teacher!
We’ll actually it’s a bit more complicated than that because I still might pursue teaching. As of right now I’m still undecided about this career path. After years and years of waiting to find something I actually wanted to do as a lifetime career, I thought that I finally found my calling. I’ve loved ASL from the first class I took in high school and have really excelled in the language. I have also found a love for coaching and really liked teaching the skills of volleyball. So I thought what could be better than to combine those two passions and make that my career.
As I was finishing my associates degree, during a pandemic, I applied to Western Oregon University. I was going to complete their ASL Studies Program and be in school for about 3 more years. As I was waiting to get my acceptance letter I started to doubt if I would even get in. I had never wanted to get into a school more than I did now.
Finals week came around, and let me tell ya… that was the most life altering week of my life. In a single week I finished my AA (4 years in the making with all the breaks I ended up taking), got my college acceptance letter to pursue my Bachelors in Oregon, and got a job offer that would keep me Washington for the next few years or more. I never thought I would love being a dental assistant as much as I do, and now I’m not so sure I’ll be going back to school.
Of course I might feel differently 3 years from now, I tend to change my mind quite often. But as of now I am so happy with where I am and what I’m doing. So yeah… the big life changes are the ones you never see coming. 🤷🏼♀️
