A photography workshop shouldn’t be about simply driving you to a beautiful location and pointing toward the waterfall.

“It's over there. Good luck.”

That’s not how we teach.

Our instructors are there beside you helping with composition, exposure, filters, long exposures and night photography.

We look at your images.

We answer questions.

We help you recognize what’s working — and what might make the next photograph stronger.

Because Iceland will give you plenty of incredible subjects.

There are destinations you visit.

And then there are destinations where you seem to stop every ten minutes because somebody in the vehicle says, “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Iceland is one of those places.

Waterfalls. Black beaches. Glaciers. Braided rivers. Volcanoes. Geothermal landscapes. Mountains that look like they were designed by a landscape photographer.

In September 2026, we’re offering two very different ways to photograph Iceland.

📷 Iceland in Fall — explore Iceland from the ground, including its waterfalls, glaciers, coastlines, autumn landscapes and, if conditions cooperate, the Northern Lights.

🚁 Iceland Highlands by Drone — take your camera into the sky and photograph some of Iceland’s wildest landscapes from perspectives most visitors never see.

✏️ Romania quietly delivered one of the best bird and wildlife photography experiences we have had in years.

This workshop combines the wetland wilderness of the Danube Delta, the open landscapes of the Măcin Mountains and the forests of Transylvania.

We photograph colourful European Rollers, Bee-eaters and Hoopoes. We watch Little Owls hunt, Kingfishers work the waterways and pelicans lift from the Delta. Then we enter the Carpathian forests to photograph Brown Bears and their cubs from carefully positioned hides.

Behind every opportunity is a team of local guides who have prepared the locations before our arrival. Beside you is Zoltan Nagy, helping you understand your camera, anticipate behaviour and make better decisions when the action begins.

And with only four photographers, you have the time, space and instruction needed to make the most of every encounter.

Romania does not need to shout. It simply delivers.

✏️ Four photographers. That is the entire group.

Our Romania Birds and Bears Workshop is limited to just four guests. That means more room in the blinds, better shooting positions and more personal guidance throughout the journey.

There are no large groups competing for the same opening. No row of tripods blocking the view. No elbows quietly declaring war inside a crowded hide.

A small group also gives us flexibility. When wildlife behaviour, weather or light changes, we can adjust quickly and take advantage of the opportunity.

You will have space to work, time to ask questions and direct access to experienced photography and local wildlife guides.

Because when a bear cub appears or a Kingfisher lands in perfect light, you should be making photographs—not negotiating for six inches of space.

✏️ Few photography workshops offer this much variety in just one journey.

During our recent Romania Birds and Bears Workshop, we photographed more than 75 species across three very different regions.

The Danube Delta gave us pelicans, herons, grebes, terns, kingfishers and countless wetland birds. The Măcin Mountains brought European Rollers, Bee-eaters, Little Owls, shrikes, wheatears and raptors. Transylvania finished the journey with Eurasian Hoopoes and Carpathian Brown Bears with cubs.

We photograph from custom boat blinds, land-based bird blinds and quiet forest hides. Every few days, the landscape changes, the species change and an entirely new chapter of photography begins.

This is not a workshop built around one animal or one photograph. It is eleven days of variety, behaviour and full memory cards.

✏️ The success of a wildlife photography workshop often begins weeks before the photographers arrive.

Our local guides do not wait for us to land before looking for wildlife. They scout the locations, monitor nesting activity, study animal behaviour, check water levels and determine where the best light will fall.

In the Danube Delta, they identify productive channels, feeding areas and bird territories. In the Măcin Mountains, they prepare blinds with natural perches, clean backgrounds and the right direction of light. In Transylvania, they monitor the movements of Brown Bears and Hoopoes.

Wildlife always keeps the final vote, but careful preparation puts us in the best possible position when the moment arrives.

Because luck is useful. Knowing where to wait for it is better.

One of my favourite wildlife encounters in Namibia was spending time with this mother white rhino and her three-year-old calf while in the vehicle and on foot.

At that age, the calf is getting bigger, stronger and more independent, but still stays close to mom. Watching the two of them move through the open grasslands gave us a chance to photograph more than just a rhino portrait.

We could photograph the relationship.

The distance between them. The way the calf watched her. The way they moved together through the landscape.

And with very few vehicles around, we had the time to stay with them and let the scene develop naturally.

Those are the moments we look for on safari.

Not just wildlife.

Behaviour. Connection. Story. Sense of Place.

There are the polished photographs of Himba women in full traditional dress.

And then there are the photographs that show a little more of the real world.

That is what this portrait means to me.

This wasn’t about creating a perfect version of the Himba for visitors. It was about photographing a woman as she was, in her own environment, in a quiet moment that felt natural.

The traditional dress, the jewellery and the customs are important parts of Himba culture. But so are the in-between moments. The expressions. The surroundings. The small details that remind us we are photographing people, not costumes.

For me, this is where travel photography becomes more meaningful.

Not everything needs to be polished.

Sometimes the photograph that stays with you is the one that feels the most real.

It’s easy to become obsessed with the big landscape in Namibia.

The towering dunes. The Atlantic Ocean. The endless views.

But some of my favourite photographs come from ignoring all of that for a moment and looking for the smaller details hiding inside the scene.

At Sandwich Harbour, the wind was pushing sand across the crest of the dunes and the late light caught it perfectly. Instead of photographing the entire landscape, I tightened the composition and focused on the lines, texture and movement.

That small section of dune became the photograph.

It’s a good reminder for any landscape photographer: when the scene in front of you feels overwhelming, stop looking at everything.

Look for one thing.
One shape.
One line.
One moment of light.

Sometimes the intimate landscape tells the better story.
