There are millions of reasons why I love a night sky. Here’s one of them. Mt Hood, Oregon’s highest mountain with an elevation at 11,249 feet, was lit up by night hikers and the sky filled with stars. To top it off, there was a Barred Owl calling close by - night time bliss.

Leave only footprints.

I can’t recall when it became apparent that this beetle was not the one I thought it to be. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Meet the Asian Lady Beetle or called ladybird. Markings are much different to a ladybug. 🐞

The Asian Lady Beetle were intentionally introduced in the US and are impacting the native ladybugs because of their aggressive eating habits. They overwinter in buildings, your walls and ceilings.

In warmer months, they dine on aphids.

Typically, I notice a horse fly once it is on my skin. 😬But, this female (the males’ eyes touch; no middle section) was positioned next to me as though she was studying me. So cute.

👩🏾‍💻Did you know that it is the female horse fly that uses her scissor-like mouthparts to slice the skin open rather than piercing it? That’s why you feel an immediate, sharp sting and see yourself bleeding.

Female horse flies need a blood meal to produce their eggs. However, they lay their eggs on plants, leaves, rocks, or damp soil near water sources, not inside living hosts

I just love their eyes!👀

Living on an island in SE Alaska was an amazing experience! The majority of the island consists of the Tongass National Forest - the largest US National Forest. The island residents were kind, friendly, and very eager to share the island’s history.
