I almost didn’t post this one because I know there will be photographers who don’t agree, but I’d rather you hear it from me than find out from a client who quietly decided not to book you. The private account, your close friends list story saying you only got 2 hours of sleep before the wedding you’re currently shooting, and the fun weekend getaway while galleries are overdue all feel harmless when you post them, but your clients only know what you show them, and they’re deciding whether to trust you based on it. You can still be a real person online, and choosing what you share and when is a huge part of building a brand clients feel good about. People-pleasing photographers, step to the front! 🙋‍♀️ Most of the time when a client asks for a little extra, they’re simply asking, and the burnt-out answer comes from a kind place because you don’t want them to feel awkward. The problem is that every “sure, no problem” slowly teaches you to resent work you used to love. Booked-out photographers say no just as kindly, but they explain why things work the way they do and offer an option that keeps the door open, like moving a gallery up the line, sending an updated quote, or sharing what’s included. And those conversations get so much easier when your brand already shows clients the value of your work before they ever ask.
