It’s been one cycle around the sun since this day, and I have so many feelings looking at these photos.

From the intentional time Dava + Carly set aside to start their day at a “just for them” location, where they shared a first look and exchanged private vows.

To the spontaneous and laughter-filled pit stop at a gas station on the way to their venue for snacks and beverages.

To their beautiful ceremony with all their loved ones, set against the gorgeous Wy’East Vineyards and Mount Hood in the distance.

To their reception with a view, tasty food, and the sweetest pups in the entire world.

To their sunset walk through the vines where they got to take a few moments alone to recenter and be present with each other, as the sky lit up in all sorts of magnificent color.

To the end of the night party, with wardrobe changes, tasty pie, and lots of dancing.

These two went through a lot getting to this day, and it was all worth it. And I know their first year of marriage has been full too, of all the things, good and difficult, that life will throw at you. But the thing about D+C is that they’ve ultimately built a life full of adventure. And I’m certain that will continue to be the case for all the years to come.

Dava + Carly, a happy anniversary to you two. I wish I could give you the biggest hugs in person before you embark on your newest adventure. But please take this post as a sincere and wholehearted “Congratulations on one year! May every year be even better than the last.” I know you’ll make so many more unforgettable memories in all your life together. I can’t wait to see where you go and what you do ❤️

Happy 1st Anniversary!

Woo, August was a big year last year. So many wonderful anniversaries to celebrate. And this one...this one is special.

Ash + Rudy traveled all the way from Texas to elope in Portland. They wanted trees and an intimate experience. Their biggest consideration was having a celebration that was just for them and not full of fanfare. They told me from the get-go that their goal was simple, peaceful, and focused on just being together.

Portland was significant to them because they traveled here for the total solar eclipse in 2017. And if you were also here during that time, you might remember that it occurred on August 21st - so this date was also significant to them.

And so, over the course of just a couple months after they reached out, we planned this beautiful day. They brought two of their closest friends to serve as joint witnesses and who contributed greatly to their sweet ceremony. We all hiked around Hoyt Arboretum on a stormy, windy day that felt like a movie. It was perfect.

One of my favorite memories of this day happened after it got dark and I finished taking photos. Ash and I talked as we made our way back to the cars, and we connected over so many things. Rudy fell back a bit and sneakily captured a photo of us (last photo in this set), lantern glinting on the dark path, lost in conversation. I still treasure that photo. It meant so much to me that my presence was important enough to them that Rudy took that photo.

Getting to know these two, hearing their stories, documenting just how much they love each other...it all culminated into this wonderful feeling of connection that I’ll never forget.

Ash + Rudy aren’t really on social media, but I still think they deserve a permanent spot in my feed and an anniversary acknowledgment. So, to Ash + Rudy: I wish I could hug you both and wish you a happy first anniversary in person. Thank you so much for honoring me with an invitation to be part of this immensely personal and memorable day. I think of you both often, and I really hope our paths cross again.

How has it been a year?! A whole 365 days since this beautiful couple celebrated the start of their marriage in one of my favorite Portland places, Hoyt Arboretum. A year since they exchanged private vows in the trees, before committing to the rest of their lives together in front of family and friends. A whole rotation around the sun since they gathered with their whole community downtown to party into the night, eat delicious food, and commemorate this new beginning. What a dream this day was!

A huge and hearty happy anniversary to you, L+J. I hope this first year has been full of so many adventures and lots of laughter and joy. Cheers to many many more years of all that and more! 🥂

I said today was a memorable day, and that’s because Venture Ever After got to celebrate with TWO couples on this day last year!

While I (Nadia) was documenting Sina + Toby’s amazing day (see my last post), VEA’s associate photographer, Cassidy, was with these two wonderful humans. Sarah + Chris had a magnificently stunning wedding celebration at one of the most iconic venues in Oregon, Mount Hood Skibowl. Their day was filled with color and joy, and even when the mountain decides to play coy and stay mostly hidden behind moody, dramatic clouds, the views and scenery at this spot are unforgettable. This vibe…it’s pure magic!

One whole year since Cassidy (along with second shooter Raya) got to follow these two around the mountain, laugh and play on the alpine slide, and photograph the most raucous and fun dance floor.

Sarah + Chris: From the whole team, a very happy anniversary to you! I hope this first year has been marvelous. Cheers to all your adventures to come 🥂

Today is such a memorable day, and this beautiful couple is one significant reason. A year ago today, I got to document their gorgeous, thoughtful, unforgettable wedding. Sina + Toby had a celebration unlike any other I’ve ever seen in my 16 year career. Sina’s mom did all the planning and decor, and my goodness, isn’t that reception just to die for? The amount of thought and intention that went into every single detail of this day was astounding. And to be included as part of that was such an honor.

S+T, I hope his first year of marriage has been full of so many amazing memories and moments. Cheers to one year down and a lifetime of love to go 🥂

11 years of marriage today with the best. Jay Padzensky you’re my favorite, forever and ever. Adventure partner, dog and cat parent, auntie and uncle to the best kids (love you guys so much T+K+E+S), nature and world exploring companion, and so much more. We have been through SO much, difficult and joyful. And I wouldn’t change any of it. You’ve seen me through so many stages of who I am, and I’ve seen you grow and change so much too. I love how we share life and learning with one another.

Thank you for making my life so much fuller and more vibrant. I love you, handsome!

A year since this gorgeous day in the gorge at the always amazing Skamania Lodge, celebrating two of the sweetest, M+A. This was another one of those larger wedding days that still felt so connected and intimate, despite a bigger guest list. The amount of tears and laughter was immense, and of course, this location being so connected to and surrounded by nature adds an element of almost surreal atmosphere that really helps you stay present, even with the happy chaos of a crowd. This really was such a special day and one that I think back to quite often!

Some of my favorite moments that are still so vivid to me a year later:

A helping M get into her dress and them sharing a quiet moment together, pre-ceremony.

M+A doing a first look with their whole wedding party, who showed up with the most wonderful and sincere enthusiasm for the moment.

Catching little moments between M+A when they didn’t think anyone was looking...seeing them sharing such genuine and sweet affection for each other that never had anything to do with performance.

Silly golden hour moments full of deep laughter and a beautiful calm and joy.

Magnificent toasts packed with loving words and affirmations.

An unforgettable celebration and party where it was obvious that every guest was there to truly celebrate and support M+A. It was like a little window into just how loved and adored these two humans are by their incredible community.

All that to say: A very happy first anniversary to you, M+A. Thank you so much for choosing me to help you remember what a marvelous start to your marriage this day was. Sending you hugs and lots of good energy for all the fantastic adventures and years you’ve got left to spend together 🥂

And finally, we’ve arrived at Part 3 of Alyssa + Whit’s wedding day. I don’t get the share images like this very often, since I only shoot a limited number of larger weddings each year. And boy, was this an unforgettable one.

The end of these two’s wedding day was filled with pure, uninhibited fun. This was the part of the day where everyone leaned into joy in the form of dancing, laughing, and singing. And even in the party part of their day, A+W incorporated intentional connection.

After their first dance, they invited every single person present to the dance floor for a photo. It was chaos and eventually devolved into everyone just joyously singing together. In other words, it was perfect.

Later they asked everyone to join in a traditional Mexican wedding dance called La Víbora de la Mar. During this dance, the couple stands on chairs, and all the guests are meant to participate. Some guests help hold up the couple to keep them safe, and others dance around in a chain (the dance translates in English as “The Sea Snake”) trying to knock the groom off his chair. It’s absolutely riotous in all the best ways, and I love how the couple’s community literally holds them up through the tumult. It was hilarious and also beautiful. A highlight of the day to me for sure!

The rest of the night consisted of continued celebrations, ending with a sweet last dance where the energy slowed, and it felt like a little moment of reflection on the happenings of the day and an opportunity for even deeper connection before the night’s end.

And I think all of this really is proof of how even a larger wedding can be built around connection and meaning, rather than fanfare and pageantry. If there was ever a wedding day that embodies truly being together, I think A+W nailed it.

Part 2/3 to A+W’s wedding day, and I’m so excited to talk about how these two managed to achieve a genuine atmosphere of presence and connection, even with a larger guest list.

After A+W took some alone time to start their day, it was ceremony time back at their venue. All their guests waited under beautiful decorations, some making great use of the provided colorful fans to fend off the increasing heat of the day. Everyone was encouraged to wear vibrant clothing (and everyone *showed up* for it).

And then the ceremony began, and it became apparent immediately just how special this group of people were to A+W. Their community participated in their ceremony both formally and informally. Loved ones provided readings, their niece officiated, they interacted with their guests in such a way that it felt like the guests were part of the ceremony, not just witnesses to it. They all laughed together and cried together.

And then after the ceremony, it all became even more tangible, how much love these folks all shared.

Cocktail hour was so jam-packed with hugs and laughter, that I and my second shooter, Cassidy, had non-stop opportunities for documenting genuine moments of joy and bonding.

And then there were the toasts. The main theme of the toasts: The incredible ability that A+W have to build community. How they create space for people to come together in truly meaningful ways. How much they’ve affected other people’s lives for the better. How they consistently and emphatically they show up for others.

Hearing the way these two’s loved ones talked about them made it so clear that each and every person present was there because they feel a true connection to these two. Nothing about these two’s wedding was based in “should”s or “just because”s. Everything and everyone was intentional. Consequential.

And A+W did, indeed, spend the rest of their wedding day being present with everyone. In quiet little conversations, in hugs and small touches, in playful side moments, and lively dancing.

Y’all know I love nature and a good, long hike. Combine that with a wedding day, and *chef’s kiss* that’s my jam. But what you may not know, especially if you’re new here, is that I also shoot a limited number of larger weddings too. What I love most about documenting weddings is creating art from human connection. And there’s no rule that says connection only happens on a remote trail with only two people present.

Case in point: Alyssa (she/her) and Whit’s (he/him) wedding day.

There were a couple things that were most important to A+W about their wedding: Being present with each other, and bringing together all their loved ones. They also incorporated tons of vivid color and cultural elements (when I asked them if they had any specific theme for the day, they said “Rainbow Mexican wedding”). All in all, they wanted a vibrant, love-filled day with their community surrounding them.

The day started with a first look in their empty ceremony spot. There was something special about them sharing that space before everyone else arrived. There was an air of anticipation mixed with the kind of calm and comfort you get when you know it’s just you and your partner.

After their first look, they visited a mini altar with a statue of St. Antonio de Padua (the Saint of Lost Things/Loves). Tradition is to position the statue upside down until you find your true love. Once you find each other, you flip the statue right side up. It was a sweet moment, and a perfect transition to the rest of their alone time.

We did some portraits around their venue and then headed to Laurelhurst Park for some time in nature. They wandered the park, enjoying the sunshine and just being together. This time was important for grounding themselves and setting the tone for being present, both in these moments together and with their guests the rest of the day.

And that takes us to part 2 of their day, which I’ll feature in my next post! I’m so excited to show y’all how A+W so beautifully illustrated how connection can be intentionally centered for a larger celebration.
