Call of the Mountains Art

Call of the Mountains Art I am an energetic adventurous astrophotographer who takes kick ass photos in state and national parks around the country!

I have been doing astrophotography for about 10 years now and have been to 10+ states and 15+ national parks.

Normally, every year when I open my calendar preorder, I know exactly which picture of the year should be the cover. However, this year, I have three I really like, and I can't seem to choose, so I decided I'd ask all of you to help vote for the best calendar cover. The options are: #1 with Comet Swan above Colonial Peak; #2 is a fiery sunset over the Grand Tetons; and #3 is my latest shot from North Mountain Lookout during the Perseids, but we got more lightning instead of shooting stars. Which do you like best?

This is "Glimmers Against the Dark." When I was photographing this piece, you could hear all sorts of wildlife out in the distance. The calls of bats and owls alongside the occasional croaking of frogs. The name of this piece is inspired by "Shadows of a Dying Sun" by Insomnium. Daniel and I have loved this song since it came out—the whole album, actually. We were lucky enough to get to see Insomnium play this album in its entirety back in January of this year. Having the Milky Way stand above Hallett Peak across the dark lake during a new moon really matched the vibe of the song to me. You can find this piece for sell on my website in canvas, metal, or framed.

And don't forget to see me at Fresh Paint this weekend in Everett!

This weekend we will be at Fresh Paint in Everett! Come check out all the artists doing demos and showing off our cool art stuff. I will have some cool time-lapses to show off and some brand new Signature framed pieces! I would love to have my new pieces find their forever home this weekend so I can go back to the studio and frame up some more!

When you look like we do (casual goth), you can have some interesting interactions with people. At the Redmond Arts Festival, Daniel and I were eating sandwiches outside of our truck after the show, before we began the hour-long drive back home.

A security guy was strolling across the parking area at the time and yelled out, "What are you two smoking over there?" We thought that he was joking as we were very clearly eating, so we shouted back, "Sandwiches!" He grumbled in response as he walked away, but continued to hover around the area. Dan and I didn't think anything would come of it.

Soon enough though, he turned back around and asked, "Is that like some kind of synthetic he**in?" and we just stopped, simply shocked he was actually serious. Maybe he didn't hear us clearly, as the parking garage is echoey, so I spoke up a little louder and responded, "No, it's like pastrami." He clearly didn't seem to understand and responded, "What!?" Dan stepped in and spoke very clearly: "Dude, we are just eating sandwiches. We were vending all day at the show and needed some food."

He responded by putting his hands in the air and saying, "Look man, we're all good here, we are cool.” Like, of course we are cool. What do you think is happening here?! I couldn't believe this guy thought we were doing drugs as we were standing next to our car finally having our dinner before going home to come back and do it all again the next day. I even saw the security guy the day before and the following day as he kept shooting me looks while I was in my booth.

We often question if we would do better at shows if we looked more status quo, but on the other hand, we are artists for a living. Everyone says they want the authentic us, so we have been leaning a little more into our love of metal, industrial, and goth music and style. We try not to let stuff like this bring us down, so instead we chose to laugh about it and share the story with our artist friends and crack jokes all next day with each other.

Let us know if you want more fun stories from shows in the comments. Or if you have a fun story to share that you've seen or heard at a festival or art show, share it in the comments.

Come learn astrophotography with me this September!

Let me show you that you don't need a top-of-the-line camera or to hike a bunch of miles to catch amazing Milky Way photography. I have geared my workshops for all skill levels; all you will need is a camera capable of manual settings and a nice sturdy tripod. We will go over everything from planning the shot, checking the various types of weather, photographing the night, and, of course, editing the final composition together.

You will get hands-on learning under the night sky—truly the best way to learn astrophotography. I will even have some star trackers for students to try out if they don't have a tracker themselves.

Workshop details:
When: Sept. 11th - 13th, 2026
Where: North Cascades National Park
Class size: 8
Hiking difficulty: Easy
Cost: $2,295
Optional Accommodations: starting at $500

Only 6 spots left, so act fast!

BAM is this weekend! One of the premier art shows in Washington is back, and I am so excited to be a part of it. It's even larger this year than it has been in past years. If you come by and wanna find me at the festival, I will be in the west parking garage. Only in Washington can we have the "fancy" part of a festival in a parking garage, haha. But Dan & I will be there, and the full details are down below. Supporting local artists is how we keep the art scene alive, so make sure to stop by and find that new special piece you can't live without.

Where: Bellevue Square West Garage
When: July 24th - 26th
Booth Number: L-03
Fri & Sat 10am - 7pm
Sun 11am - 6pm

I call this piece "Taste of the Rain." One of the best things about Washington State is when we have those dense, foggy days, dew dots the evergreens, and the air fills with that incredible smell of rain. This piece is named after the lyrics in one of my all-time favorite Celldweller songs, "So Long Sentiment." You can find the print for sale on my website in various sizes and options.
