Which way to the campground for some of those delicious camper burritos?? Pretty sure this is 307, taken 8/5/25. And heads up... I will be temporarily be shutting down my Etsy store in two weeks as I head back up to Brooks for another week of camping. So get in your photo requests and I will do my best for some fat bears and Autumn colors!

While there are just a few bears visible on the cams right now, it is a great time to celebrate the diversity of animals hanging around the trails of Brooks Camp for National Park Week's Watch Wildlife Wednesday. Here are the non-bear or salmon wildlife sightings I have had the pleasure of seeing throughout the years (still haven't been able to get a photo of bats as they fly past my headlamp early in the morning in the campground or of that great horned owl near my tent that woke me up most mornings on my last trip).

This post is not specifically about bears, but is bear-adjacent? It is National Parks Week, a time to reflect on "America's Best Idea" and today is the 110th birthday of the National Park Service. I grew up in the outdoors, which gave me a great love of the sounds of flowing water, the smell of fresh rain in a rain forest or the desert, and respect for every animal and critter I crossed paths with. While Katmai National Park is home to the bears we love, I hope everyone takes time this week to appreciate the immeasurable value of the NPS and the importance of their mission to preserve and protect not only the beauty of natural spaces, but also places of historic or cultural significance. Yeah, yeah... back to bears soon 😄.

Throwback Thursday: 6/30/22 when 399 No Pants Mystery Bear took a tour of his new surroundings and tried out all the fishing spots at the Falls. He briefly stood on the lip, but seemed unimpressed and unsure of why any bear would want to fish from up there. Watching a newcomer bear try to feel out a new environment where most of the bears are already somewhat familiar with both the fishing spots and the other bears was pretty interesting to watch. Bonus... he was such a card! Still hope he wanders through again some day.

Guess who returned to the Falls looking faaaaattttt! 428 on her first day 7/3/26 and her borb-ey live cam photo from yesterday after her Tour de Fish 'n Berries Buffet for comparison.

Good morning! I love me some bear nose crinkles. 230 Ben focuses on not losing his snack (7/3/26/). Hope he and some of the bears make their way back to the Falls soon.

It's FriYAY!!!!!! Every Monday, I am pretty sure I won't make it, but then somehow I do 😄. I am counting the minutes until I can race outta here like 910 and her very silly pre-shed bob hairdo. Have a great one, everybody!!
