Photos and art from a recent visit with the Brook Falls bears in Alaska's Katmai National Park.

All photos taken from viewing platforms and trails only in an attempt to minimize my impact on the bears we love.

Today's Life Goal: Be the bear (and not this salmon). Happy hump day... git it, git it!

Happy FriYAY!!!! One of the fun things about going to Brooks early in the season and then later in the season was seeing the size difference in the spring cubs. 132 paraded her hooligan triple-threats past the campground to my amusement multiple times a day 😂.

620 Bead is as yell-ey about food as her momma 910. To be fair, so am I 😂.

Happy Sunday! Sorry I have been a little MIA since returning from my second trip to Brooks this year. Work has been kicking my butt and then a cold/flu had me down for the count. I am trying to finish up my photos from June/July before going through my September photos, but will post a few here and there as I take a first pass at them. In the meantime, just imagine me passed out like the 224's on 9/12/26.

And the new 2026 Fat Bear Champ has been crowned... 89 Backpack would like his winner winner, salmon dinner for his well-deserved win!

If you have ever purchased anything from me since I opened my little etsy store a few years ago, you know I donate a dollar from each item sold to the Katmai Conservancy. I tally up the amount each year during FBW when donations are also matched by Explore.org to make a bigger impact. Donations for the last year's sales was just sent. I decided to also double your total donation, so combined with Explore's match, we donated $356 to support for Park staff, infrastructure, and research. And yes, I may have specifically cut it off before yesterday's order came in because a total of 89 items was way more fun because BACKPACK 😂 (that order will go in to next year's total). Thanks to all to that purchased and to all that help support Katmai!

Throwback Thursday: 634 Popeye was definitely one of the greats, and an extremely handsome boar, to boot. Photo from 7/2/22

Hump Day as we head in to a three day weekend! I haven't had time to watch cams much, but I hear my favorite humpy bear made it back last week with her coy. Sure I get to see all of them again soon. (photo from 6/29/22)

"We're coming, mom." 26 looks like she just used both of her yearlings' full legal names to rein them in from their hijinks 😂. 7/3/26

Well, 602 and I are in agreement... that weekend was about three days too short😆. Happy Monday! (photo taken 7/31/25)
