This is easily the most COLORFUL room I’ve ever had 🤣

Set up is almost complete and we start school on Monday with our students in the room before 8 AM and I do not have access to the room again this weekend! So I may be frantically going home printing a bunch of posters, and Return returning to the school before they close the door doors for good until Monday very late this evening, we will see.

Posters I am planning to put up:

– Class rules
– no cell phones
– backpacks go here
– food and drink goes here
– my name
– memes
– and more throughout the year 🤣

so what do you think? Should I have wallpaper on that wall? Repaint it this winter? Put up more posters? 🤣

Cleaning out corroded batteries is my least favorite thing to do.

We have all done this at least once - and I (now that I’m thinking about it) need to go check my own flash unit because I haven’t used it in ages 🤣

I’ve spent decades collecting old cameras and cleaning corroded battery out of them. The longer it sits, the worse it is for your equipment.

So make yourself a note now - before summer (especially), go through and pull batteries out of your battery operated items before you check out. If you make a calendar reminder about it NOW, you won’t forget later!

What is something you wish you had done before summer break to make your start of the year smoother?

But first, an apology!

I made a post earlier this week where I focused on the errors I saw in a meme that was randomly posted by a friend of mine. I thought it was a fun way to point out some of the issues we face with generative ai.

I let my irritation with ai being pushed on the education field and beyond in advertising and design flow through my words without thinking about how the person who posted it originally might feel.

And for that I sincerely apologize. I should have taken a few minutes to look up the website that was listed on the original or blocking it out, but what I should have done was practice better critique skills and be kinder with my words.

We aren’t always perfect, but rather than hide a mistake, I want to learn from it.

So tell me, how do you feel about ai in education? Or about ai being used with advertising in general?

A trip to Home Depot is coming 🤣

DIY is built into my bones - I just hate seeing useful items not being used. I’ve also asked to have a surplus shopping spree but haven’t heard back yet.

In the true art teacher form, I am a HOARDER and still have probably another 10 boxes of things to unpack still.

I’ll post the finished version of these shelves turned tripod storage when they are all done!

Let’s just ignore the fact that my fingers “do like that” at the end of this video 🤣 I’m hyper mobile.

Last week when I came into my classroom, I found that I have over 30 tripods with multiple different styles of tripods. Yay!

But they were all kept in the most complex and absurd way to store tripods piled on top of each other in a cupboard set up so that somebody opening the cupboard could have an avalanche of tripods - just a massive safety hazard.

As I pulled them out, I started ranting to myself about the status of sad tripods and decided to record a quick little Ted talk for you all.

FYI, the Moore complex your storage solution is the less likely it is going to be that your students actually put things away properly

And the last thing you want them to do is to grab a tripod and smack it into somebody because the legs weren’t closed down tight or the tripod head was loose.

I was planning a complicated pegboard set up, but I figured out another plan since then 🤣

This is the type of thing that we are seeing pop up more and more often because it’s quick and shareable, but is it worth it?

The longer I look at this the more I notice that is just comedically WRONG.

This was a BEAUTIFUL sight to see!

I’m not sure I’m a fan of the storage solution, but it was definitely fun to open for the first time!

At the same time, those camera straps hanging forward are “giving anxiety” as my students would say 🤣

Definitely coming back to this one later, but excited to have a full set at this new school!

Tag me in your camera storage posts! I know the set up I loved in the past won’t work here, but looking forward to other possible solutions

I’m pretty sure the melted crayon smell that the room exudes comes directly from this painted wall…

Fun story… the wall was painted by a student for their capstone project… while the room was still a photography class…

And I’m pretty sure they were using up the last of a teachers old tempura paint.

It’s flaking in several areas… with layers on layers, and there is paint ALL OVER THE FLOOR.

Long story short, it won’t be painted this year so I need to find some ways to break up the BOLD and make it a little more easy on the eyes. ESPECIALLY because my students and I FACE this wall. All. Day. Long.

I’m hoping to get it repainted to a solid blue (school color) next year. But for now, I’m begging admin to let me go “surplus shopping” and find some whiteboards!
