I’m pretty tired after a long day of landscaping and yesterday’s run, but that’s nothing compared to the 200 mile runners who have been at it since yesterday morning, some at mile 140, some at mile 80. My hats off to you all at the !

Katy and I checked out the Backcountry Rise 20 mile course today amidst thunder storms and wild strawberries galore. It also just so happened to coincide with the Bigfoot races and we got to see Jesse Haynes cruising into mile 52 of the 200 mile race in 3rs place looking strong and jovial. Today was pretty cool.

I will seldom carry an expression of pain or discomfort while I’m running and racing, but I have come to realize there is one visible manifestation, that it tends to take the form of how hard I clench my fist. Photo courtesy as I near the Wy’East Howl 100k finish.

The Strawberry Mountain shuffle. I have to say I’m surprised by how quickly my body is rebounding from the Ild Cascadia 100 miler. There are some remaining kinks for sure, but at least hiking feels good!

Five year anniversary - that came up quick! Life definitely seems to go by faster when you’re having a blast with and today is no exception.

Think of it like this: At mile 70 you’ll begin the hardest 50k you’ve ever done, except you’ll have already done it once earlier that day.

This photo was taken by a week and a half ago at the inaugural Wild Outback 55k, and what a race that was!

Old Cascadia races (20, 50, 100 mile) are coming up quick on the 22nd. I’ll be running the 100 and hope to share many miles with the usual fantastic trail running community. It will be nice to have the 50 mile runners start at the same time too!

If you haven’t signed up yet there’s still a few days to do so. Check out .running for the details.

Adapt: That was the word on my mind for four and a half hours this morning. It’s something the Gorge has had to do daily since the Eagle Creek fire swathed its ridges and gullies, and with every new landslide or trail closure I find myself adapting to the stage as a runner myself.

The solitary summit required new navigation this time around, but it was a good mix: 12 miles of single track, 6 forest road and 6 paved.

Beyond that point remains restricted to public access, but that only makes it all the more dear to me. The frogs below seemed happy at any rate.
