A Framed Tribute Somewhere Near The Glen(In Memory of Glen Hansard)I dreamed of you once last nightsometime around 3am.In a cathedral across the oceanas you promised to meet meat the crossroads of Broadway. And yet I waited. You spoke of bells ringingin the streets of New York. And yet I heard a raucous tribute asthe bells were ringing in your name. You and Shane are reunitedand full of wild legendary melodies. And dancing monstrous jigs acrossGalway Bay into Dublin town.Like all good-bad boys music wasyour Irish compass.Wandering and rambling justas the ancient Irish poets of lore. With a pint in your handand soulful songs in your hearts.Slan agat, as my dreams bid meto write dangerous poetry forthe lads and lasses to toast upon.I hope all of your dreamscame true.As you departed, beyond the vale of the Irish Sea in a haleof glory.© Mary Anne AbdoFootnote: I remember blasting Glen’s music in my rented car, driving near Wexford town with my cousin Eileen. Check out Glen’s performance of Fairytale of New York at Shane MacGowan’s funeral.
