I’ve always loved traveling wherever my couples’ engagement stories take me. There’s something so special about being invited into someone’s home that holds so much meaning to me.

Tbh, I’ve never really understood the idea of giving out “location guides” or recommending photo locations to my couples. Sure, I could pick a spot that photographs beautifully very easily, but if it doesn’t mean anything to them, it won’t feel the same when revisiting the photos many years from now. I tell my couples to intentionally choose places that carry a piece of who they are as people.

Christine and Joe chose her family’s lake house for their engagement session, and from the moment I arrived, I understood why. It’s where they spend slow mornings on the deck overlooking the little “island” across the water, where their intimate conversations linger a little longer on the patio, and where summer nights end with the sky overlooking the lake.

Christine told me how much she and Joe love going on walks and hikes together, so that’s exactly what we did. We wandered, we talked, we laughed. Nothing posed, nothing rushed. Just them, being themselves, in a place that already feels like home, so why would I want to change that about them

I live to work, but I’m not working to live.

It’s kind of surreal writing this… today as I turn 25.

And exactly one year ago, on this same day, I decided to bet on myself and go all in.

I still remember the feeling. Scary. Liberating. Like closing one chapter and stepping into the unknown with nothing but belief and a camera.

I didn’t know how things would go, but I knew I couldn’t ignore what was pulling at me anymore. I knew that photography was the one thing that made me feel alive. Not just because I love taking photos, but because I LOVE the people I get to do this for.

Over this past year, I’ve met so many incredible couples, families, and friends who have trusted me to document the biggest moments of their lives. And it’s not lost on me how sacred that is.

This job has taken me places I used to only dream of. It’s taught me patience, humility, empathy, and what it really means to serve others with my gift. It’s taught me that fulfillment doesn’t come from chasing perfection, but from being present and noticing the quiet, in-between moments that mean the most.

So yeah, I live to work.
But not because I have to.
Because I get to.
Because doing what I love, for the people I love, is the greatest privilege in the world.

Here’s to 25.
Here’s to one year of Brandon Lam Photography.
And here’s to everyone who’s believed in me along the way.

I’m endlessly grateful. 🤍

I honestly wouldn’t be the person I am today without Scranton Prep. This is where I first picked up a camera, where I fell in love with photography. To be invited back years later, not as a student but as a proud Prep alum capturing the very essence of this school, has been one of the greatest honors of my photography career.

This project has been my little secret for months now, and seeing the new website finally launch today was so surreal. Clicking through the pages felt like stepping right back into my Prep days, with the same energy and Prep spirit that shaped who I am. I’m so grateful to Jeanine Pavuk, Virginia Farrell, and Michelle Fellins for trusting me with this wonderful opportunity.

What made it even more meaningful was the chance to reconnect with the faculty and staff who poured so much into me, and to meet the students who are carrying forward that same Prep tradition today. Even after graduating many years ago, while working on this project, and not knowing a single student—I felt so welcomed in like I never even left. It reminded me of the home that Prep has always been for me, and I truly felt like I still belonged. That sense of belonging to my Prep Family has never left.

My Jesuit Education has always been at the heart of what I do now as a photographer. The latin phrase ad altiora natus—born for higher things—was something I didn’t just see in the halls everyday at Prep, but carried with me long after graduation. It taught me to aim higher in everything I do, to pursue my passion with purpose, and to remember that it’s not just about me. Prep formed me into a being a man for others, and even now, with my photography career, I see my wedding work as a way of giving back to my clients, documenting moments and stories that will live on long past me. Being part of this full-circle moment was truly a privilege, one that reminded me just how much my Prep community has given me, and continues to give.

I have to admit there was an elegance to the casualness of Ellen’s wedding that’s really hard to replicate. Before the day, she told me that what mattered most was being able to look back years from now, sit down with Mark, and feel the same joy and love she felt in each moment, just like she did when she used to flip through her parents’ wedding photos as a kid. Being trusted to capture that for her in a real, honest way is something I’ll always value and I’m just so thankful to have photographed these memories for not only her but also for her future children and grandchildren. Love you guys ❤️

Whatever happens, happens… and here, it was bear hugs, champagne toasts, dance floor mayhem, lifting the bride and groom like rockstars, and laughing until your face hurts. That’s a wedding day to someone.

We didn’t overthink it.
A boat, a sunset, a bottle of wine,
and two people completely in their element.
That was their vibe. That was their session.

Wandering through NYC with Isa & Corey felt like pressing pause on everything else. It wasn’t about the photos at all or planning the “perfect” shoot. It was just the three of us, slowing down, taking it all in, and really getting to know each other. That’s what I love most about these moments. They’re not meant to be perfect. They’re meant to be felt. Honest, beautiful, and real. So that years from now, you can look back and remember exactly what it felt like to be here. To be young, in love, and alive.

This is what I’m always going for when I photograph a wedding—to make it feel like you’re right there, living it like a guest.

I think back to my cousin’s small wedding in Upstate New York. I wasn’t the photographer or anything—I was just there, taking it all in. The love, the quiet moments, the way everything felt.

That stuck with me.
That’s what documentary photography is really about. Not the perfect poses, but the real stuff—the energy, the emotion, the in-betweens.

Because people might not remember every word or detail… but they’ll always remember how it felt. And that’s what I want my photos to hold onto.
