Francisco Montes Photography Greetings and welcome to my photography space. Saludos y bienvenidos a mi espacio de fotografía. Thank you for visiting and I hope you come again.

This has been my hobby for the past several years and sometimes I use photography as part of my graphic design work. Thank you for your comments and "likes", they encourage me to go forward and learn more. I like to photograph what surrounds me, but my preference is the picture of nature as I can see in it God's greatness and his great creation.

Lonely Sandhill Crane

In Illinois, the sandhill crane (Antigone canadensis) is a common bird, particularly during migration, with large flocks passing through the state in spring and fall. Wildlife Illinois notes that around 20,000 sandhill cranes migrate through Illinois from mid-February to mid-April and again from mid-September to mid-November. Additionally, some sandhill cranes breed in northern Illinois, especially in marshy areas.

Total Lunar Eclipse

Early this morning, we had the incredible opportunity to witness a total lunar eclipse. As the Earth moved between the Sun and the Moon, its shadow gradually enveloped the lunar surface, creating a mesmerizing celestial display. Observing this phenomenon was truly fascinating.

Today, social media is flooded with images of the eclipse—this is just one more. But to me, it’s special because it’s my own version, captured through my lens and perspective.

Layers

Two years ago, in 2023 and around this time of year, we visited Death Valley National Park. For me, it is a very interesting place for photography. In this photo, in the background, we can see what they call Telescope Peak, covered in snow and clouds. I hope to return there at some other time.

Do you see what I see?

This is a perfect example of “pareidolia,” when our brain sees faces or other recognizable shapes in everyday objects. The fold of the pants and the position of the pockets likely create the illusion of eyes and a mouth, giving the impression of a hooded figure sitting at the table. These types of images can be very striking and even unsettling, depending on the lighting and context. (The photo was not planned, nor were the elements intentionally placed).

A Simple Mushroom

I really enjoy macro photography; it reveals a tiny world full of fascinating details. However, as the years pass, kneeling and getting up repeatedly has become quite exhausting. This photo, taken this past Saturday, might be my last one of the year, which ends tomorrow. It is made up of two combined shots to better focus on the mushroom. While it’s a simple photo, I’m happy with how it turned out. God willing, I hope to continue sharing more of my photos in the coming year.

It's a Small World

Yesterday, I went to the forest with the idea of photographing the small yet fascinating world at our feet—mainly mushrooms. I had tried a couple of times before without success. However, yesterday, I managed to photograph many. They are so tiny—measuring between half and three-quarters of an inch—that you really have to search carefully among fallen trunks and leaves on the ground, as they often go unnoticed.

Fungi can grow on various substrates, and their development depends on factors such as temperature, humidity, lighting, ventilation, nutrient availability, pH, and atmospheric pollution. Among these, temperature is a key factor for their growth.
