Some shoots you plan down to the light angle and the lens choice. This one still surprised me.

Hyoyeong in the White Project by designer Elise Alligood at the SCAD equestrian center. One look. One hour. 3pm Savannah sun — which is exactly as unforgiving as it sounds. We leaned into it anyway.

The garment is white fabric, fur, chainlinked acrylic, and a hat that deserves its own credit. Elise built something that lives between sculptural and wearable. My job was to find the light that proved it.

32 images delivered. A few of them are the kind of frames you don’t plan — you just recognize when you see them in the viewfinder.

There’s a moment in every shoot where you put the images up on the wall and you just know.

Today was that moment.

Fresh off the wall critique from Friday morning’s monkeesofbluffton session — and every piece, every detail, every frame held up. The prints. The texture. The bow at the waist. The gold at the wrist. This collection is alive and it photographs beautifully.

I came into this shoot nervous. Fashion is new territory for me — I’ve spent most of my life behind a very different kind of lens. But these pieces, and the women wearing them, made every frame easy.

This is what it looks like when great clothes meet great light. I am so glad I got to be the one to document it.

monkeesofbluffton — your summer collection is stunning. Thank you for trusting me with it. 🌿🧡📸

Okay. I did a fashion shoot today.

Me.

The woman who spent the better part of four decades in uniform — military, fire department, scrubs. Fashion has not exactly been my language.

But something clicked in that studio today.

These ladies brought Monkee’s summer collection and they brought themselves — easy, gorgeous, and genuinely fun to work with. The kind of subjects that make your job feel less like work. Honestly? Almost no edits needed. The pieces did what good clothes do — they moved, they lived, they photographed.

I’m finding my way into this world, one shoot at a time. And I think I might actually be good at it.

Thank you monkeesofbluffton for trusting me with your collection. Thank you to my photo assist and stylist jwest__art for making the day run smooth. And to the women who stepped in front of my lens — you made it easy.

Who’s next? 📸

This is what happens when you put a great photographer AND a great stylist in the same room — pure chaos, big laughs, and somehow incredible frames. Jay, thank you for today. You made the work better and the day lighter. Can't ask for more than that. 📸✨

I modeled today.

Somebody had to step in front of the camera for our fashion portfolio work at SCAD and that somebody ended up being me. Covered in vintage ties, lit by someone who actually knows what they're doing, laughing because I couldn't help it.

I had the best time. Zero regrets. Highly recommend letting yourself be the subject every once in a while.

Six images from yesterday.Six images from yesterday. Ilford HP5, Savannah streets, one roll of film.

Got home and developed it. Was in the darkroom this morning making enlargements before most people had their coffee. Those prints are still drying. In the meantime — the digital scans.

There is something about the darkroom that nothing else touches. The way an image slowly appears in the developer tray. The decisions you make at the enlarger that change everything. The print you pull that is exactly right. Deeply satisfying work.

Can't wait for the next one.

Wonderland came to life at Hilton Head Prep last week, and I may be biased — but the Queen of Hearts owned every inch of that stage. Shot on film because some moments deserve grain.

I'm building something.

A fine art portrait series. Studio work. Dramatic light. Real people.

The concept is called Adorned — and it's not about fashion the way you're used to seeing it. It's about what you put on your body when something matters. A uniform worn once a year. Your mother's ring. The piece of jewelry that survived the thing you survived. The fabric you save.

I'm looking for 6 people willing to sit for a studio session in Savannah this month. You don't need experience. You don't need a particular look. You need presence and one thing that carries weight.

In exchange: a professionally lit, printed portrait. Yours to keep.

Sessions run about an half an hour. Studio is booked for May 22

If this is you — or someone you know — drop a comment or send me a DM. Tell me who you are and what you'd bring.

Rain doesn’t come sideways in the Lowcountry. It just sits on you. Wet and windy and completely unbothered.

Today in the studio felt like the kind of shoot where nobody wanted to leave. Patty showed up in jeans and sat in that leather chair like she’d been doing this her whole life. Anthony in his jersey number 23 found his angles by frame three and never looked back. We had a girl holding a flower-covered frame like she was already hanging in a gallery. And somewhere in the middle of all of it I ended up upside down over a chair myself — because sometimes you just have to get in front of the camera and stop being so serious about being behind it.

That’s what happens when you strip the pressure out of it. You get real. You get weird. You get something worth keeping.

I’m back in studio tomorrow, Friday May 10th, 11am–1pm and I want to photograph you. No experience needed. No specific look. Just show up and be a person — that’s genuinely all I need.

DM me to claim your spot. Walk-ins aren’t guaranteed, so don’t wait.

If nobody comes? I’m making prints. Either way I win. But I’d rather have you in front of my lens.
