Wayne is a native of Columbia, South Carolina where he was brought up by loving parents and was as an active member both of Shandon United Methodist Church and the Boy Scouts of America. Throughout his youth he developed a tireless work ethic, earning the Boy Scout’s highest rank of Eagle Scout, and established a strong moral character through his faith community—both of which serve as centerpiece
s of his professional practice and the successful career he continues to build. His goal is always to go the extra mile to satisfy his clients. Wayne’s photography training began as a youngster when he started out taking pictures with his 10mm point-and-shoot camera. When he was in seventh grade he graduated to 35mm and over the next several years learned all that he could about photography—enrolling in high school photography classes to learn different methods, styles and the art of developing his own film. After high school Wayne enrolled in the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to further sharpen his photography skills and knowledge. As a student he saw the change from film to digital media first-hand, actively learning the technology and approaches that have shaped photography since. Wayne graduated from SCAD in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in photography, after which he worked as the staff photographer for SCAD’s newspaper, The Georgia Guardian, for five years. He advanced his career by transitioning into the university’s communications department, where he became the senior staff photographer. Wayne held this position for more than 20 years, earning the respect and admiration of Savannah’s arts community. Wayne stepped away from his SCAD career to fulfill the dream of owning his own photography company and, in January 2013, established Back River Photography LLC. In his work he enjoys shooting everything from architecture and landscapes to portraits and products. Recent clients include:

Wayne’s work has been published in Southern Living, Better Homes and Garden, People, Architectural Digest, Savannah Magazine, South Magazine, and Georgia Trend Magazine. His photographs have also been featured in several books, including Walking Tours of Old Savannah and St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah by Polly Powers Stramm and Janice Shay; The Story of Sliver in Savannah by Tania June Sammons; and Historic Savannah: A Survey of Significant Buildings in the Historic Districts of Savannah, Georgia by Camie M. Wayne has been honored with numerous Georgia Press Association awards and several Gold, Silver and Bronze Addy Awards, as well as awards from the Council for Advancement and Support for Education (CASE), which recognizes best practices in advancement and outstanding people who contribute to the growth and understanding of the advancement profession. While not photographing, Wayne enjoys fishing, camping, endurance racing motor sports, and family activities with his wife Lori and stepchildren Bobby and Danielle.
