Started from my kitchen floor, now we here 🥹

When I first started making stop-motion videos, my “studio” was the floor of our apartment where I’d push the table out of the way, tape down a piece of construction paper, and set up my phone on a tripod. That was the whole operation.

Then it was a room. Then a shed. Then a garage. Each one taught me something (especially the various ways to black out natural light IYKYK), but none of them ever felt fully like the dream I had in mind.

…until this one. Walking in still feels magical to me!!

I share this because I think so many creatives want the perfect setup before they start. But the kitchen floor version is what taught me how to actually make the work and the fancy studio came way later.

Hi!! 😁 If you’ve been here awhile, you know: I’m a photographer + stop-motion artist with a studio in Sausalito, a print shop owner, public speaker, and firm believer that and we all need to play more like we did as kids.

I’m an avid hiker and I never say no to sushi or boba. My husband and I met in high school but now I guess we are grown up because he is a fire chief and we’ve got 2 little kids?! (and 2 fluffy orange cats)

For years my “studio” was the floor of our kitchen, a table at the foot of the bed, then a small room, then a shed, a garage, and eventually this magical spot in Sausalito.

I’m so grateful to get to create here! The afternoon light is 🤌 (even though when I’m doing stop-motion I have to shut the blackout curtains) and the vibes are just the best. If you’ve shot here, you know.

SAVE THIS POST for how to make matcha at home! 🍵One of my favorite things about making matcha is the process. It's not simple (but it's not hard) and that forces me to slow down and lean into the ritual of it.
📝
My process:
1. Heat water to 180 degrees (or hot but not boiling)
2. Pour milk into frother
3. Scoop one teaspoon of matcha powder into bowl
4. Pour 4oz of hot water in
5. Whisk in a W formation with a bamboo whisk
6. Pour through a mini strainer into the mug
7. Pour in frothed milk and enjoy!

Arlo turned ONE and I *think* he liked his cake! 🎉 He's the best little brother with a wildly adorable personality, eats everything in sight and his only “word” so far is meowing like a cat. ⛰️🎂 He celebrated his birthday by smashing cake on the mountaintop and devouring a .rico.taco burrito, the very same kind my sister brought me right after he was born! 🌯
