Taking a ride thru town. Captured the USCGC SPAR and STEWART J CORT at the Soo Locks.
SPAR awaiting fuel with the CORT slowly works her way thru the ice for a downbound lockage this morning

UPDATE:
JOHN G MUNSON looks to finally be on the move as about half hour ago.⚓🛟😊

LOCKS ARE OFFICIALLY OPEN!!!.....
But not without a few hiccups
1. Even tho the JOHN G MUNSON was second in line to lock thru, her fleetmate EDWIN H GOTT went second
2. Upon leaving the lock chamber upbound, JOHN G MUNSON lost power to her engines. Tugs were on her about 9/10 am this morning moving her to the wall so she could tie up.
3. PAUL R TREGRUTHA was finally able to make her first of the season upbound lockage around noon today once they cleared the way and MUNSON was tied up

I climbed a few snowbanks this morning to get a few photos of the MUNSON tied up

Just so everyone is aware. There were some people saying the locks were already open because of movement.
The true case is, every year, the Locks have an unofficial lockage of vessels to allow either Canadian or US CG cutters thru so they can start the ice breaking ops in the Upper St. Marys River.
It would take an act of Congress to change dates of the official opening or closing of The Soo Locks.
They are anchored in the lower St. Marys River due to heavy ice. With cutters working the ice, we will either see movement today or tomorrow towards the locks.
