The Edwin H. Gott was the second freighter to pass through the Soo Locks this season, and we Gott this amazing photo from aboard the Dirk S. VanEnkevort while both ships were tied up at the northeast pier, waiting for the locks to open.

It's going to be a beautiful day on the dockside! Join us here in St. Ignace, Michigan this Labor Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, for the Art Dockside show right on the waterfront in the City Marina. This 2-day event features over 100 exhibits of original and unique arts and crafts displayed along the Huron Boardwalk at the St. Ignace Public Marina. Food, music, and many great activities await! Arts Dockside hours are Saturday, August 30, 9:00 am-6:00 pm; Sunday, August 31, 9:00 am-5:00 pm. This is a fun show you don't want to miss! :-)

This morning, we were greeted by a breathtaking sunrise at Rockport State Recreation Area, a place rich in both natural beauty and historical significance. As we explored the area, we couldn't help but marvel at its fascinating maritime history.

**A Bustling Limestone Quarry**

From 1914 to 1948, Rockport was a thriving limestone quarry. The limestone extracted here played a crucial role in various construction projects, including the iconic Mackinac Bridge. The deep-water harbor at Rockport allowed large freighters to dock and transport the quarried limestone to different parts of the Great Lakes region.

**A Hub for Shipping**

The harbor was a vital shipping hub during the quarry's operational years. It facilitated the movement of limestone to numerous destinations, contributing significantly to the region's industrial growth. Today, the remnants of the old quarry and harbor serve as a reminder of Rockport's industrious past.

**Shipwrecks and Maritime Mysteries**
