What an incredible opportunity it was to photograph this family during my visit to Japan. The artistry that came together was just so beautiful.

From the intricate details on the kimono and the skill of the kimono dresser to the incredible craftsmanship of the buildings, everything was breathtaking.

日本で生まれ育った人同士が
アメリカのオレゴン州で出会い
数年越しに日本の茅ヶ崎という地で
再会する

そんなことがあるものです。

4年ほど前に夫の仕事で
なんのゆかりもないオレゴン州に
引っ越すことになった。

たまたまアメリカ滞在時期の重なっていた
ご家族で、そこでも写真の撮影を
何回かさせていただいて

それからは
お互いそれぞれ日本とユタ州っていう
遠い地に引っ越して、はや数年

こうして私の地元の茅ヶ崎で再会して
子どもたちの成長をまた見ることができた

そんな奇跡に

心がギュゥって嬉しくなったそんな
楽しくて懐かしいそんな感謝の日だった。

人生って不思議なもので。

I met this family about 3-4 years ago back when we were living in Portland for my husband’s job. Life is so wild and beautiful—how is it that we, originally from Japan, met in Oregon, moved thousands of miles away, and then somehow crossed paths again… right here in my hometown in Japan?

Isn’t that just amazing?

I’m so deeply grateful for the kind of connections we make in life—the ones that stay with us and feel so special, no matter where we go.

今回はありがたいことに
何年も前に出会ったご家族から
はじめてのご家族まで一緒に新たな思い出を
一緒に撮ることができました。🥹

今回は天気や日程の関係で撮られなかった
方もいたのが残念でしたがまた来年頑張って
戻ってきたいと思っています！

Freezing hazy winter day turned into beautiful golden soft light session!✨

That day, the air quality was very poor, bad enough that out through got itchy very easily and the view in the near distance was invisible. We had a plan to shoot by a lake where you’re supposed be able to see beautiful mountain view & the lake with open sky.

But we can’t control weather and of course air quality.

We ended up changing our location in the last minute & because of it we only had less than 30 min until loosing sun light. But the sun miraculously came out through clouds and the haziness made the light so soft and dreamy. And it was just perfect for this sweet couple.

The lesson is do not let the weather or circumstances discourage you from shooting and creating something beautiful!
