YES! Jenn March is BACK as a sports photographer! Bishop Union High School defeats El Segundo 6-3 in the first game of their weekend doubleheader. I was shocked to find that these teams are technically JV when I'm pretty sure that Bishop could kick the ass of Queensbury HS or any other varsity team back in NY's Section 2. California's got some weird regulations regarding varsity teams! In Vermont if there was only one team per sport, we defaulted to varsity.

Between scattered thunderstorms, the 26th Annual Wave Rave Skate Competition went off today at Volcom Brothers Skate Park in Mammoth Lakes. There were multiple weather delays and when I drove by at 18:30, they were still competing!

In the 1960s, Dr. Edmund Schulman studied the dendrochronology of Bristlecone Pines. He counted the age of one tree in California's Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest to be 4700 years old. Dubbed the Methuselah tree, this great tree still stands today in the grove named after the scientist who aged it. I believe if trees could talk that they would share wisdom beyond any living human's imagination. Even our elderly cannot hold a candle to these incredible trees. It has been a goal of mine since arriving in the Eastern Sierra to photograph these trees. Today I finally made the opportunity for myself. The forest was silent. All and I could hear was the wind. You could feel the age of the forest; for the second time this fall, I vow to return to a beautiful place for more photographs.

Having spent nearly a year living in Mammoth Lakes, I was hard-pressed to find a place in California to reside that would blow its beauty out of the water. Monday was my birthday-- I turned 32 and I had yet to visit the famed Yosemite National Park. The park, made famous in part by Ansel Adams' photographs, has been on my bucket list since I was a child.

For 20 some-odd years, I wanted to go there because Ansel Adams was my first inspiration for both conservation and photography. That was back when I asked my mother where "Yo-seh-myte" was. She promptly corrected my pronounciation and told me it was in California, to which I responded, "Is it near my uncle in San Francisco? Can we go there when we visit him next?"

Yosemite did not disappoint. In fact, I was very sad to be leaving it yesterday morning and swore that I would return to take some real photographs of it before the snow flies. Although, it'll be difficult to come up with images as compelling as Adams' photos. Even if I am willing to hike a strenuous 13 miles and 4200 feet in elevation into the wilderness again.
