Our great friend Karen Brothersen and her family were honored to be featured in a special edition magazine. This was published by the www.heraldextra.com Our family and Karens family became lifetime friends in June of 2009. Our families moved next door to each other just 4 days apart. My wife and Karen are best friends and each of our 4 children became lifelong friends. Our family moved away in November 2021 and did not get to finish watching the completion of the temple. But, Karen and her family witnessed this from beginning g to end. If you are fortunate to have a copy of this magazine, give her family’s story a read!

“A Temple in the Cornfield”

I always thought it would be a beautiful site to just have the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple built alone in the cornfield, without homes or other structures! I know this is not feasible, but what a dream that would be to look out across a summer cornfield to this!

This is one of my favorite pictures before the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple was built! This photograph was taken approximately where the intersection of Founders Blvd and Ensign Dr just east of the temple. The photograph shows the pivot arm that would irrigate the corn and crawl across the knoll that the temple was built. This photograph is facing a southwesterly direction toward Lake Mountain.
This is also the last time this pivot arm irrigated the field before being dismantled.

We were able to attend the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple open house today. We lived in Saratoga Springs Utah from 2009-2021. Our literal backyard was transformed from a cornfield to the completion of a beautiful temple. It was amazing to enter and view the completed building that we watch be constructed. I was able to share many of my photographs, I captured during the many years of the construction process, with local media and with the church. Many of my photographs are in a magazine that was made for the open house and also included in a slidewleshow shown at the open house. I am grateful to be able to share and have my photographs share with so many.

I love the Christmas Season. I am so very grateful for the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. I love the joy and peace that most of us enjoy this time of year. I wish that the world could feel this joy and peace all through the year.

Having a strong background in the Earth sciences I love to research items relating to the Earth's history and Earth system processes as related to religion. The more that I research and study these processes the more fascinated I become with the Creation of this wonderful Earth and the creation of the Universe. I know that our Heavenly Father uses laws and rules as to how He and others created this great universe. As I continue to learn and study the universe and our Earth, I gain a further respect for how great this Creation is. My faith grows as I continue to learn and try to understand such a grand design.

There is something that I think about at Christmas time pertaining to miracles here on the Earth. Could the Star of Bethlehem have been been a Type Ia/Ic Supernova in the Andromeda Galaxy? Perhaps, not that this matters, but very interesting to think about. What is so great to think about at Christmas is how not just the Earth, but the Universe was in obedience to the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Whatever this event was perhaps a conjunction of planets, stars, moon and sun, or "just" a supernova, it does not really matter. It was the star that signified the birth of the Savior. This event was so great that the Universe changed and obeyed in order for such a great event to occur.

So this Christmas, I hope that I leave with you a little something to think about. The birth of our Savior was the greatest event here on Earth, but stop and think, this event was so great that it caused things to change in the Universe. This helps me to gain a greater understanding as to the importance of this event. His life is very important to us here on Earth, but it is greater than this, it has significance throughout the Universe.

Back on October 2, 2020 the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple appeared to be transparent. It will be great to see the inside, once again when it is completed next year! I am watching another temple being built near where I live now that looks very similar to this!
