She came to me because she was tired.

Not tired of her body. Tired of fighting it.

Tired of the voice that narrated every mirror moment. Tired of always being mid-project — always becoming, never arrived.

We didn't talk about any of that during her session.

We talked about the music she grew up with. About the way she takes her coffee. About the trip she's planning and the thing she's most proud of that nobody knows about.

And somewhere in between all of that — she forgot to be at war with herself.

The images we made that day were the most honest photographs I've ever taken of another person.

Not because she looked different.
Because she felt different.

And she carried that feeling home with her.

That's the transformation I'm obsessed with. Not a before and after. A becoming. A returning. A remembering.

Can I be honest with you about something?
"Love your body" not always worked for me. Not because the intention isn't beautiful... but because some days, love felt like too big of an ask. Some days I just wanted to exist in this body without it being a whole project. That's where body neutrality changed everything for me. And it's what I bring into every single session. You don't have to love your body to book with me. You don't have to feel beautiful, or confident, or ready. You just have to be willing to show up and let me do the rest.

Session days start quietly for me.

A warm drink. Silence. A few minutes to get out of my head and into my heart before anyone walks through that door.

I light a candle🕯
I choose the music 🎶
I set the temperature so it's warm — not studio-cold.
I lay out the robes👗
I double-check the lighting 💡

Then I sit with it for a minute.

Because the woman coming in today has been thinking about this for weeks. Maybe months. She's already rehearsed what she'll say when she walks in. She's already decided which parts of herself she's most nervous about.

And my whole job — before the camera ever comes up — is to make all of that nervousness feel unnecessary.

That's what session days mean to me.

Not just beautiful images.

A woman leaving knowing something she didn't know when she arrived.

The studio smells like vanilla and sandalwood!

Alina Baraz is playing softly in the background. The lighting is warm — the kind that makes every woman look like she's been bathed in gold.

I'm setting up for today's session.

In an hour, someone is walking through that door who has never done anything like this before. She texted me last week that she was nervous. She almost talked herself out of it twice.

She doesn't know yet what she's about to feel.

That's my favorite part of this work — holding that knowledge on her behalf until she's ready to receive it herself.

This is not just photography.

It's a ritual. A witness. A returning.✨️

She walked in with her arms crossed over her stomach.

Not consciously — just the way her body had learned to move through the world. Taking up a little less space. Apologizing for being there before anyone asked her to.

We spent three hours together.

By the end, she'd laughed more than she expected. Cried a little. Let herself be still in front of the camera in a way she said she hadn't done since she was a little girl.

Then came the gallery reveal.

I watched her see herself — really see herself — for the first time in a long time.

She didn't say "I look so good."

She said: "Is that really me?"

And then, quietly: "I had no idea."

That moment. That's why I do this.

Not the images, though they were stunning. But that four-word sentence from a woman who has been in the world for decades and somehow still hadn't seen what everyone around her could see.
