Sometimes, the memories that mean the most to us don't look like much from the outside looking in.

And the photos we didn't give a second glace at become treasured keepsakes long after the moments have passed.

See, that's the thing about a photo. It only increases in value with each passing year. The further we move away from it, and from the people reflected back at us, the more we wish to grab onto it with both hands and never let go.

These memories from the summer-they were special at first-but now? Now they are everything. Dad and son walking next to the water and recreating an image from long ago.

If only we could go back and hold them as they were-just for a moment.

As we wrap up summer and move on to fall, I know we are all thinking about FAMILY PORTRAITS for the Christmas card. Every year we wonder-is it worth it?

Is it worth it to get all the clothes together, the hair done, makeup on and getting the hubby on board?

In a word-absolutely!

As a Mom of four kids myself-one being a teenager-I know these littles won't be so little anymore. The family dynamic that seems fixed in stone will shift and change into something else. Document the NOW. The fact that your little boy still holds your hand or that they all still live under your roof.

The one thing that I can promise you is that you will never regret capturing the NOW.
