Spotlight #18 Trevor Ridriguez

From his first trip to a race shop as an eight-year-old kid to earning his first main event victory and now chasing Rookie of the Year honors in the Spec Sprints, Trevor's racing journey has been fueled by determination, friendships, and a love for the sport. Here's Trevor's story in his own words:

My racing journey started at just 8 years old when my dad’s friend took me to my first race shop. That shop happened to be the legendary shop of Kirk Simpson and Klint Simpson. From that moment on, I was hooked on racing.

At 15 years old, I made my first-ever start at Petaluma Speedway. It was a night I’ll never forget. Starting 14th and driving up to finish 7th in the main event, I earned my rookie flags in my very first race and knew this was where I belonged.

Over the years, I competed in Mini Stocks and spent countless hours helping Chet Wilson, learning valuable lessons both on and off the track. Eventually, I ventured into Micro Sprint racing, where I had the opportunity to race alongside Rob Brown, Savannah Brown, and Kenny Carter. Those years created some of the best memories and most enjoyable experiences of my racing career.

I would also like to give a special thank you to Chet Wilson of Wilson Woodworks, Mini Stock car owner and Spec Sprint co-owner, for his support, guidance, and the opportunities he has provided throughout my racing journey. I'd also like to thank Rob Kaehler for all of his help and support this season. Having people like Chet and Rob in my corner has meant a great deal to me both on and off the track.

After taking a few years away from racing to enjoy other hobbies and life experiences, the passion never faded. In 2026, I returned to racing full-time at Petaluma Speedway, competing in my sprint car and chasing new goals on the track.

Along the way, I also achieved a milestone that every racer dreams about—earning my first main event victory in a Mini Stock at Antioch Speedway.

For me, racing is more than a sport. It’s the friendships, the memories, the long nights in the shop, and the people who become family. I love racing, I love the competition, and most importantly, I love my racing family. Every lap, every challenge, and every victory is shared with the people who have supported me throughout this journey.

🏁 Driver Spotlight #17: Colby Kurtz #80 🏁

Let's give a warm Petaluma Speedway welcome to Colby Kurtz, the newest member of our racing family. Please join us in welcoming the driver of the #80 Mini Stock as we learn a little more about his racing journey and the road that brought him to Petaluma Speedway.

At just 12 years old, Colby Kurtz is already building an impressive racing resume.
Colby's racing journey began at the age of 5 when he climbed into an Outlaw Kart at Lakeport. Over the years, he's competed at tracks across Northern California, including Lakeport, Eureka, Chowchilla, Red Bluff, and Cycleland. Racing has always been a family affair, and in 2023, his younger brother joined him under the KB Racing banner.
In early 2026, Colby and his dad decided it was time for a new challenge and made the jump from kart racing to Mini Stocks. Thanks to Kirby Karting/Big Bear Racing, they found the perfect car and got to work. After countless hours spent side-by-side in the shop rebuilding the #80 Mini Stock, the team finally had everything ready for race day.
On June 13th, Colby completed his first full Mini Stock race. Despite still learning the ropes, he finished 11th out of 13 cars and conquered one of the biggest challenges of the transition…mastering the clutch!
When he's not turning wrenches or making laps at the racetrack, you can find Colby on the baseball field enjoying his other passion. Whether it's racing or baseball, Colby brings determination, hard work, and a love for competition to everything he does.
Keep an eye on the #80 Mini Stock, this young driver is just getting started!

Petaluma Speedway 6-13-2026

For Colten Haney, Saturday night's victory was one that will be remembered for years to come. The third-generation racer captured just the second Main Event win of his career, with his first coming two years ago. Adding even more significance to the moment, Colten had to race his way past his own father, reigning Petaluma Speedway champion Jon Haney, to get it done.

The evening started with a strong run in Heat Race #1, where Colten crossed the line third behind Austin Ohlinger and heat race winner Jon Haney.

For the Main Event, Jon Haney sat on the pole position with Austin Ohlinger alongside him on the front row. Colten lined up directly behind his father on the inside of row two, setting the stage for a memorable family battle.

When the green flag dropped, Jon Haney jumped out front and looked poised to add another victory to his impressive resume. Lap after lap, Colten stayed glued to his father's rear bumper, applying constant pressure while searching for a way around. Jon never wavered, hitting his marks and fending off every challenge.

Meanwhile, Austin Ohlinger was also in the mix early, applying pressure for the lead before a pair of on-track mishaps sent him to the rear of the field. Refusing to give up, Ohlinger mounted an impressive charge back through the pack.

As the white flag waved, Jon Haney still held the lead, but Colten finally found the opening he had been looking for. Making his move on the final lap, Colten charged to the front and took the lead just in time to collect the double checkered flags and score an emotional victory.

Jon Haney would settle for second after leading all but the final lap, while Austin Ohlinger's determined comeback drive earned him a well-deserved third-place finish and a spot on the podium.

For Colten Haney, it was a special win over one of the toughest competitors in the field—and one that adds another chapter to the Haney family's racing legacy.
