The Redwood Dwarf Car Association put on another thriller Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway during the inaugural Shawn "Iron Man" McCoy Memorial.

The event honored Shawn McCoy, a racer remembered not only for his fierce competitiveness but also for holding the Petaluma Speedway record for consecutive starts. Known throughout the pits as "Iron Man," Shawn spent many years competing in both the Dwarf Cars and Super Stocks, making the Dwarf Car Memorial feature especially meaningful.

When the green flag dropped, Darren Fridolfs rolled from the pole position alongside Marcus Hardina on the front row. Chad Matthias lined up inside row two, while Joey Lingron started inside row three, setting the stage for what would become one of the most dramatic races of the night.

Hardina wasted little time taking command of the race and appeared to be on his way to an incredible third consecutive victory in three starts this season. But the win was anything but easy. Throughout the feature, Hardina faced relentless pressure from Joey Lingron, Chad Matthias, and Darren Fridolfs, who all remained within striking distance as the laps wound down.

As the race entered its closing stages, it looked as though Hardina had the Shawn McCoy Memorial victory firmly in hand. Then heartbreak struck.

With only a couple of laps remaining, Hardina's machine suffered a mechanical failure and rolled to a stop in turn four, bringing out the caution flag and ending what had been a dominant performance.

Running a close second at the time of the caution, Darren Fridolfs inherited the lead and suddenly found himself in position to capture one of the most meaningful victories of the season.

When the double checkered flags waved, it was Darren Fridolfs standing atop the podium as the winner of the inaugural Shawn "Iron Man" McCoy Memorial Redwood Dwarf Car Association feature.

Sometimes racing can be cruel, and sometimes it can be rewarding. Saturday night delivered a little of both, as Fridolfs capitalized on an opportunity late in the race while Hardina was left wondering what might have been. That's racing, and that's why every lap matters.

Congratulations to Darren Fridolfs on capturing the Shawn "Iron Man" McCoy Memorial victory, and hats off to Marcus Hardina for a tremendous effort that deserved a better ending.

Petaluma Speedway 5-30-2026

There are victories, and then there are victories that mean just a little bit more.

Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway during the Shawn "Iron Man" McCoy Memorial, David Lindt Jr. returned to Victory Lane for the first time since suffering a terrifying crash last year at Calistoga Speedway.

Starting from the pole position, Lindt Jr. put together a flawless performance. From the drop of the green flag to the waving of the checkered flag, he never surrendered the lead. Lap after lap, he hit his marks with precision, driving a smooth, disciplined race while keeping two very fast competitors at bay.

Anton Gianini kept the pressure on throughout the feature and crossed the line in second place, while Bradley Terrell completed the podium in third after recording the fastest lap of the race on lap 12 with an impressive 15.295-second circuit.

While the statistics will show Lindt Jr. leading every lap, the story goes much deeper than that. After enduring the setbacks and recovery that followed last year's Calistoga crash, this victory serves as a testament to perseverance, determination, and the never-quit attitude that racers are known for.

Congratulations to David Lindt Jr. on an emotional and well-earned return to Victory Lane at Petaluma Speedway. A dominating performance, a memorable win, and a night that won't soon be forgotten.

Petaluma Speedway 5-30-2026

The first-ever Shawn "Iron Man" McCoy Memorial is officially in the books at Petaluma Speedway, and what a race it was.

Less than a year after losing Shawn, friends, family, fans, and competitors came together to honor a racer whose impact on our speedway community will never be forgotten. Shawn's toughness, determination, and love for racing earned him the nickname "Iron Man," and this inaugural memorial event was a fitting tribute to his legacy.

When the green flag dropped, the racing action lived up to the occasion. Mike Learn emerged victorious after battling some of the toughest competition in the field. Richard Brace, Randy Miramontez, and Steve Studebaker all had their turns at the front, with Learn having to fend off a hard-charging Studebaker in the closing laps to secure the win.

The racing was intense, the competition was fierce, and the emotions ran deep. More importantly, it was a night that brought the racing family together to remember a friend, competitor, and true Petaluma Speedway favorite.

Congratulations to Mike Learn on capturing the victory in the inaugural Shawn "Iron Man" McCoy Memorial. Most importantly, thank you to everyone who helped make this special event possible as we continue to honor and remember Shawn McCoy.

Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
