The right wing is absolutely losing it right now over the UN building’s escalator just not working during President Trump’s visit. Jesse Watters on Fox News said, “I mean, this is an insurrection, and what we need to do is either leave the U.N., or we need to bomb it… Maybe gas it?… But we need to destroy it. Can we demolish the building? Have everybody leave, and then we’ll demolish the building”. All this was said on national television, and the FCC remains silent while a prominent newscaster on a massive network openly calls for bombing the United Nations building. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt amplified the outrage, posting, “If someone at the U.N. intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately”. Other right wing influencers ran wild with conspiracy claims, insisting the escalator stoppage and frozen teleprompter proved intentional sabotage and demanding dramatic retaliation.
But the escalator stopped because a White House cameraman accidentally triggered the safety mechanism, and the teleprompter was operated by White House staff, not the UN. Every piece of actual evidence pointed to routine technical snags from Trump’s own crew, yet the right immediately spun up a narrative of international sabotage and needed vengeance.
Why is it that the right wing is always so supercharged, foaming at the mouth over controversies they manufacture with their own hysteria to keep the base whipped into a frenzy. From broken escalators to imaginary culture war threats, they churn out one outrage cycle after another, leaving everyone else simply exhausted by the performative chaos. I am not sure how much more madness this country can take. Makes ya miss the days when politics was boring.
