I’m excited to be featured in Central Coast Voyager, sharing a little more about the story behind MacKenzie Rana Photography, how this business began, and what continues to matter most to me after all these years.

“My niche wasn’t a type of photography. It was people.”
And I think that still sums it up perfectly.

The proposals, weddings, families, milestones and all the moments in between are what I get to photograph—but the people I meet and the relationships built along the way are what have made this career so incredibly special.

From the beginning, I was so excited to follow them from their proposal to their wedding day. Getting to know them both through it and capture the most meaningful moments is such an honor. Sometimes you meet the love of your life in the most unexpected places.

For Ashley and Nik, it started in a lab.

A seat next to each other. A conversation. A connection that quietly grew into something steady, intentional, and lasting.

Years later, they stood at Tar Creek Ranch surrounded by the people who know them best and promised forever.
One of my favorite moments from their day wasn’t even during the ceremony. It was their first touch in the meadow, standing back to back as they read private vows. They cried. Both admitted they just wanted to turn around and see each other.

Their wedding felt exactly like them—thoughtful, grounded, and full of genuine connection.

Getting the job after nursing school was the last thing on Nautika’s checklist before she felt ready to get engaged.
So naturally... life(Andy) decided to do both at the same time. 💍✨

Fresh off accepting her new nursing position, Nautika thought she was headed to a casual weekday wine tasting and luncheon at Sunstone Winery. Instead, she walked into a beautifully styled courtyard filled with florals, music, and one very nervous boyfriend ready to ask the biggest question of his life.

The best part? She had absolutely no idea.

Andy intentionally planned a weekday proposal to keep things quiet, intimate, and focused on what mattered most: the two of them. No crowds. No audience. Just a moment they could fully soak in together.

Watching the realization slowly hit her that this wasn’t just the luncheon she thought she was attending… was a favorite part!

Another incredible couple I loved from our first phone call and another couple I secretly held back my tears while I documented their wedding day at Madonna Inn.

The best proposals always feel a little like them!

For Zachary and Rhiannon, that meant ocean views, quiet trails, and a sunset at Montaña de Oro.

They met at the gym after months of noticing each other — until one day Rhiannon jokingly called him out for always wearing a hat and “catfishing” everyone by hiding his hair. 😂

Six years later, they stood above Spooner’s Cove on the Bluff Trail while Zachary asked one of the biggest questions of their lives.

Afterward, we wandered the cliffs and trails together while the sun dropped over the coastline.

Playful. Relaxed. Intentional.

Exactly how a proposal should feel. 🤍

The best part about tonight, personally, was that this is my second time around Emma and Logan's family. I captured their surprise proposal and a surprise engagement party, and now it's their wedding weekend. It's going to be beautiful!
