Dozens gathered at St. John Eudes Parish in Chatsworth Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil honoring five people killed in two separate tragedies Tuesday.

The community remembered Gage Weida and Daniel Castillo, who were killed when a suspected DUI driver crashed into a Metro bus, along with NewsChopper4 photojournalist Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and Edy Gutierrez Mejia, who were killed in the helicopter crash that followed.

Firefighters quickly contained a brush fire that burned approximately 2 acres in light fuels along the southbound Interstate 5 and Castaic Road near the lower crossover.

The fire was reported beneath power lines and did not threaten any structures. Crews gained rapid access to the incident and completed a 100% mop-up operation to eliminate any remaining hot spots ahead of incoming weather conditions.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Max Fire started as a 1/4-acre vegetation fire in heavy brush before rapidly growing and threatening nearby homes. Firefighters established structure protection along Gloriso Lane, Favoloso Court, and Summerhill Lane as the fire expanded to 45 acres, prompting a 2nd alarm response. During the incident, a drone was reported near structure protection operations, forcing aircraft operations on that side of the fire to be temporarily suspended for safety. Fire crews ultimately made significant progress, slowing the fire’s forward spread and protecting threatened structures.

A fast-moving brush fire sparked along northbound I-5 north of Castaic, sending smoke into the air and prompting evacuation warnings and shelter-in-place orders for nearby residents. First-arriving crews reported the fire at approximately 1.5 acres, burning uphill toward structures with a moderate rate of spread. Firefighters quickly launched an aggressive attack, stopping forward progress and surrounding the fire with hose lines. The blaze, later named the Cactus Fire, was mapped at 4.23 acres. All evacuation warnings, shelter-in-place orders, and restrictions have since been lifted. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Alta Fire burned 335 acres in Los Angeles County, prompting a large firefighting response as crews worked to protect nearby communities and strengthen containment lines. Multiple ground crews and aircraft were assigned to the incident as smoke and active fire behavior impacted surrounding areas. Evacuation alerts and road impacts affected nearby neighborhoods while firefighters continued containment and mop-up operations. Crews were able to stop forward progress and continue gaining containment throughout the incident.

A social media influencer known as “Spice King” was detained at gunpoint after deputies responded to a reported attempted 459 burglary at his residence. Deputies made multiple callouts before ultimately entering the home, where they found him barricaded inside. He was taken into custody without incident. The situation comes just weeks after he was involved in a recorded altercation at Six Flags Magic Mountain that went viral, and follows a prior domestic violence-related call at the same address about a year and a half ago, during which he reportedly fled the scene.
