Sharing some shots of Oropendolas I took last year under the rain in Costa Rica 🇨🇷

Did you know their name comes from the Spanish words “oro” and “pendola”? These translate to “gold feathers,” referring to the bird’s bright yellow tail feathers. 💛

Following up on my latest post, here it is another shot of the Milky Way I took from Mono Lake during our last trip in October. It is a better view of the Milky Way core since I was using my other camera with a higher focal length lens. ✨

This photo is also a stack for the sky and a blend with a blue hour shot for the foreground.

What do you think of this different composition?

Last October I had the pleasure to visit the Eastern Sierra for a few days, one of the nights we went to shoot the Milky Way in Mono Lake. The core was lower but I was able to catch it. I was lucky enough that there was no one else in the area and I had the place all to myself. This is one of the few places where there is little light pollution, perfect for night photography. This is a stacked photo for the sky blended with a blue hour shot of the sand Tufas. Let me know what you think?

The Tufas, as many other things in the Eastern Sierra, always blow my mind and I am so happy I was able to shoot the Milky Way there. Have you ever seen the Tufas in Mono Lake?

“Blue hour magic” - Took these a few weeks ago when my dear friend was in town. We, with went to shoot in Santa Cruz and were treated to a pretty sunset. I always enjoy shooting the movement of the waves to see what patterns I can capture. Let me know which one is your favorite.

📸 Eastern Sierra October Throwback! 🧡💛❤️

Can we just take a moment for the Fall colors that absolutely erupt in the Eastern Sierra?! 🤯 These shots are straight out of Lundy Canyon and around June Lake, where the aspens were putting on a serious show. It's like nature turned the saturation dial all the way up!

Which photo is your favorite? Let me know if you spot a little golden magic in your feed today! ✨

King Vulture Kids: Fluffy & Fierce!
Remember my post about the majestic adult King Vulture? Their babies are equally awesome.
* Fuzzy Chicks: No sleek black & white yet, just soft downy feathers.
* Crown in Progress: Those iconic red wattles? Not so prominent on the youngsters.
* Mini-Monarchs: Smaller, but already rocking that regal posture.
These little guys may not be as intimidating as their parents, but they're still captivating!

Witnessing the incredible work at in Costa Rica! My friend leads their wildlife sanctuary, rehabilitating animals like the ones in these photos. Tragically, many are victims of poaching or accidents, luckily in Proyecto Asis they help them recover and go back to the wild when possible. Learn more & support at institutoasis.com

✨🦜 Pura Vida! 🦜✨

Here are some shots of a beautiful scarlet macaw I took in a wildlife rescue in Costa Rica a few years ago. These beauties are still in danger due to habitat loss and many times because of people. They are wild animals and should be left in the wild, they are not pets.

What better way to use my new zoom lens than to capture the beauty of the King Vulture in Costa Rica? This magnificent bird is truly a sight to behold, with its vibrant colors and striking features. The King Vulture is a scavenger found from Mexico to Argentina, known for its distinctive appearance.

Here are some interesting facts about the King Vulture:
- It is the largest New World vulture, after the condors.
- It has a strong beak that is well-adapted for tearing meat.
- It has keen eyesight and a good sense of smell, which it uses to locate carrion.
- It is a social bird, often forming groups of up to 20 individuals.
- It can live up to 30 years in the wild.
