3 things you should be doing on the off season

1. Updating your website - Make sure to add some new imagery to your website. Out with the old and in with the new!
2. Writing blogs - Why not write out 12 blogs for the entire year and schedule them to post? We all tend to run out of time for blogging during the busy season. Get it done now so you don’t have to worry about it later!
3. Making a road map of goals for the new year - Make a few set goals for growth this year. Map out how you are going to achieve these goals and make it happen!

Running out of content ideas? Here are 5 prompts to get the creative juices flowing for your next post.
1. Educate your followers on something you think they should know about your process as a photographer. For example; What colors photograph best.
2. Ask your followers a question. For example; Past brides what would you have done different with your wedding if you could go back in time?
3. Post a which would you rather poll. For example; you could ask if they like a specific picture in either black or white.
4. Talk about blog! Repurpose some content from a blog and out the link in your stories so people can read it.
5. Talk about something that’s currently happening in your life. It is so important to be relatable within your niche. Talk about something that your followers will identify with.

It's the beginning of the year friends! So let's talk about goal setting. It is always a great idea to sit down and write out a map for the new year.

Ask yourself these questions!
1. What made me unhappy last year?
2. what made me happy?
3. How much would you like to earn this year?
4. Reach out to a trusted client and ask them what you could have done better or what you did best.
5. Set one easy goal and one hard goal. Then make a road map of how you are going to accomplish both goals.

It’s that time of year! Time to start thinking about getting a new hard drive. Here are my 5 steps to setting up your new hard drive!
1. Reformat/ erase. Did you know that every drive comes with a bunch of un needed junk from the factory? Reformat to make sure you have all of the space you need.
2. Create a new catalog. You should be working within a new Lightroom catalog each year. No need to create a new catalog for each client. It is much easier to move between editing galleries in one catalog.
3. Create and import preset. An import preset will ensure your images are organized correctly and named during each import.
4. Organize! Create collection sets that will organize your galleries. For example; Family portraits, weddings, senior portraits etc.
5. Don’t forget to mirror copy to a back up drive! Please do not keep all of your images in one place. Remember! Hard drives fail make sure to back up to at least one other place.

Tis the season of burn out 😬 Are you feeling it? The absolute overwhelm and lack of time? Don’t worry you are not alone. I hear so many photographers talking about how overwhelming this time of year is. Let me ask you this…. Is it worth it? Every photographer gets to a point in their career where it’s time to make a decision that will better your quality of life. If you are feeling overwhelmed and like their isn’t a spare second in the day then it might be time to raise your prices!

I recommend increasing your prices yearly for the first 3 years of your photography career. Burn out is your sign that it’s time to charge more!

The other day I got kicked out of my Instagram account for about five minutes. It was the longest five minutes of my life. I genuinely thought I had been hacked and I lost everything. I started to realize that if I didn’t have my Instagram account I most likely could lose my business. Especially if somebody was posing as me. But it got me thinking what other ways can I promote my business but aren’t Instagram? Because let’s be honest social media platforms come and go. So this is your sign to start coming up with other ways to promote yourself. You could also make sure your password is better than mine too 😂

Tip of the day! Don’t leave your lenses unprotected. Make sure to put a clear lens filter that screws on to the end of your lens. This way if your camera bumps anything that lens filter will take the hit and not your actual glass.
