Interesting how debates about mirrorless vs DSLR for space photography hinge on specs — but they often miss the bigger picture.

The famous 1972 "Blue Marble" was shot on a Hasselblad with 70 mm film and depicts Earth fully sunlit. A recent 2026 image made with a Nikon, by contrast, captured the planet on the dark (rear-lit) side and was exposed at ISO 51,000. So you’re literally comparing day to night: a sun‑illuminated, front‑lit scene versus a backlit, low‑light capture. That difference in illumination, exposure regime, and viewing geometry explains most of the perceived quality gap far more than the camera mount or sensor format.

In short: context — lighting, exposure, and orbital geometry — matters more than the brand of camera when you compare images taken under fundamentally different conditions.
