Chicago in a day? Challenge accepted. 🌆

👉 Before we dig in, follow to plan your next favorite trip!

After finally completing the second half of Route 66, we made it to the road’s official starting point in Chicago – with just one full day to explore. So naturally... we built the day around food. 😅

🌮 Breakfast in Pilsen @ Cantón Regio
🫘 Selfie stop at The Bean
🥪 Lunch at Lou Mitchell’s (yes, “The Bear” fans, that Lou Mitchell’s!)
🎡 An afternoon at Navy Pier
🇮🇹 Italian beef at the original Al’s Beef in Little Italy
🌇 And a sunset from 100+ stories above the city at Sky Deck

If you only had one day in Chicago, what would be the one place you’d refuse to skip?

A lot of people skip these. 👀

We think that’s a big mistake.

Utah’s Big 5 are amazing, no question. But if you don’t already know, you might not believe how next-level the STATE parks are here, too!

Our favorites:
📍 Dead Horse Point
Roughly 30 miles from Moab, the views are so vast here that it’s hard to believe you’re not it a National Park! It’s absolutely breathtaking. And if you are driving from Moab, the scenes along the way are also stunning.

📍 Goblin Valley
About 100 miles west of Moab, think Bryce Canyon, with way less crowds and a more compact valley filled with with smaller goblin-like hoodoos… and total Mars vibes. Even cooler is there are no marked trails – allowing you to wander freely and even climb on the hoodoos!

PLUS, for just 10 bucks you can get a permit to fly your drone here!

California isn’t just a state. It’s a state of mind. 🥰🌅🏝️🏙️🍹

Before we tell you why it’s the best 😉, follow for more inspo to help you plan your next favorite trip!

Expensive? Yes, we can’t deny it. But there are also so many inexpensive and even FREE things to do, like see the Cabazon Dinosaurs as shown!

Crowded beaches? Who doesn’t love sharing space with wildlife?

We’ve experienced all seasons in California - it isn’t just SoCal.

Despite what some may say 🍊, the hiking trails in California are so well maintained and you may never run out of enough to explore.

Fake? It’s the land of creators, inventors, and dreamers.

There are many legit complaints about California. No place is perfect, but to us California is as close to perfection as a state comes. Exciting cities with so much to offer, world class food scenes, the entertainment capitol of the world (cancel your streamers before you criticize it for that... it’s a half-TRILLION dollar industry 🤷🏼🤷🏻‍♀️), the 4th largest economy IN THE WORLD, and don’t even get us started on the incredible and diverse nature! It’s home to 9 national parks (the most of any state), 280 state parks, beaches, mountains, deserts, incredible wildlife, and some of the largest and oldest trees in the world.

Is California on your travel wish list?

Nothing like a Yosemite sunrise. 🌅

Most people go up to Tunnel View for the sunrise, so it can get crowded. We had this sweet spot all to ourselves.
So no one heard me curse loudly when I dropped Stephen’s phone in the creek. 😆*

Did they do us dirty? 😜

Ok, those might not have been the dirtiest sodas ever, but the combinations were wild ad we loved what we ended up with!

During our time in Utah we started seeing signs for "dirty soda." So naturally, we had to investigate. 😂

What we learned: dirty soda is basically soda mixed with flavored syrups, cream, fruit, popping pearls, or whatever else you’re feeling. While the concept of mixing different ingredients with carbonated bevvies has been around for a long time, the modern day version – and the name "dirty soda" originated in St. George, Utah.

Was it delicious? Yes!

Was it weird? Nah!

Did Utah actually do us dirty? Totally, and we loved it!

Welcome to our series: American Tries American Food – where two people who have traveled all 50 states try the regional foods, drinks, and questionable food trends we find along the way.

Did we make you hungry? 😉

Follow for more of the best food stops for your U.S. road trip!

Key lime pie 📍Key West, FL
Crawfish 📍Gulf of Mexico coast
INSANE sandwiches 📍Bordo in Marfa, TX
Quesabirria tacos 📍El Paso, TX (among other places)
Bar-B-Q 📍all over the south (you may find it hard to believe, but our favorite was in Mississippi!)
Fry Bread 📍the Southwest (our favorite is in Laguna Pueblo, New Mexico)

The beautiful thing about these “U.S.” foods, is that it’s like going on a world tour all in one country! As a nation formed by immigration and colonialism, we have influences from everywhere, even in the foods that many of us might think of as being uniquely American. Whether it’s the way a specific restaurant does it, like the Italian-influenced sandwiches at Bordo; the style of preparation, like Barbecue/BBQ; or the history behind how a food came to be and what it can symbolize, like frybread; these are some of the foods we’ve enjoyed on our travels through the U.S. that we think everyone should experience at least once in their lives!

Is this another planet? 🤯

Before we get into it, 👉 follow for more inspo for your next favorite trip!

We've driven through a LOT of beautiful places, but Utah? Yeah, it's a problem. 😜

Especially southern Utah, where the landscape goes from “wow” to “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” in about five seconds.

This is one of our favorite regions to drive through in the U.S.. And Moab specifically is hands-down our favorite place (and most welcoming) for van life and boondocking.

TBH, it's hard to think of many places that can compete with the sheer scale, color and craziness of these landscapes.

Utah, you’ve ruined us. 💀

You were warned! 🤣

Before we get into the deets, follow for more road trip inspo and laughs.

📍Uranus, Missouri

This is a stop along Route 66 like no other. And everyone is in on the joke(s). Like constantly. From the greeting as you walk in the door - all employees shouting “Welcome to Uranus!” - to the music playing throughout: original tunes that sound like pop and rock and country songs, but all with off-color lyrics that you can’t help giggling to.

Is it juvenile? FOR SURE! But is it fun to just let go and be silly? HECK YEAH!

And the best part about this stop? It’s a fudge and candy and ice cream, and other yummy goodies wonderland!

Are you adding Uranus, MO to your road trip this summer?

Los Angeles is great, but…

Before we tell you more about one of our favorite California towns, follow for more inspo for your next favorite trip!

📍Solvang, California

This town in the Santa Ynez mountains might have you feeling like you woke up in Denmark! Complete with Danish flags, a bust of Hans Christian Andersen, European-style restaurants and bakeries, wine tasting rooms, and FOUR windmills, it just might be the cutest town in California! And did we mention the ostrich farm on the outskirts of town?

🔥 HOT TIP: try the aebelskiver! 😉
