Why does being photographed feel so scary?

It's funny, isn't it? Most people don't give it a second thought... until the camera's actually pointed at them. And suddenly... whoa... there's this wave of nerves that comes out of nowhere.
I think it's because a photograph feels permanent. It holds the moment still. It makes things real in a way that mirrors and selfies somehow don't. And sometimes that's the hard part... accepting who we are, right now, on this beautiful, messy journey of life.
The mind has a sneaky way of whispering, "But look how much you've changed..." And then denial tiptoes in, because yes... time did change us.
But here's how I see it: that's not something to mourn. That's transformation. ✨ A caterpillar has to shed its shell before it can fly. Embracing the new you is hard, I won't pretend it isn't... but when you finally do? It's pure freedom.
You start to love the person looking back at you through the lens. And honestly, that's the magic I live for as a portrait photographer... capturing you, exactly as you are, in a way that makes you feel seen.
I'm here to walk this with you, whenever you're ready. Because being photographed? It's a beautiful thing. One of the most beautiful things, actually.

"Oh god, I hate being photographed."

I hear this all the time. From authors. CEOs. Founders. People who walk into a room and command it, but the second a camera shows up, they want to disappear.
And honestly? It breaks my heart a little.
I photographed Parmjit Brar, CPA, CTP for her book Detaxify Your Life, and I want you to really look at her cover. That's not a woman performing for a camera. That's her. Warm. Smart. The kind of person you'd want sitting across from you when your finances feel scary.
Here's what I wish more people knew. Being camera shy isn't a flaw. It just means nobody's ever made you feel safe in front of one.
That's my whole job.
Not posing you like a mannequin. Not telling you to "relax" while you panic. Just talking to you like a human, making you laugh at something silly, and quietly catching the moment your shoulders drop and you forget the camera is even there.
That's the photo that ends up on your book cover. The one your readers fall for before they read a single page.
You don't have to love the camera. You just need the right person behind it.

The Boy Who Stole My Heart (And Might Steal Yours Too)

If you know me, you know this already... dogs own a little piece of my soul. Honestly, I think they're the best thing that ever happened to us humans. They keep us grounded when life spins out. They make us laugh on the days we swore we couldn't. They somehow know, before we even say a word, exactly what we're feeling. And when the storm hits? They're the anchor that keeps us steady.

My own pup came from a rescue, and every year I've had her, my respect for these rescue organizations grows a little deeper. The blood, sweat, tears, and yes, the money they pour into saving dogs who can't save themselves... it's nothing short of extraordinary. These are the quiet heroes.

So whenever I can, I try to give a little back.

This week, the sweetest soul walked into my studio. A senior boy, partially blind now as the years have caught up with him, but oh my goodness... you'd never know it. He bounced around, tail wagging like it had its own agenda, playful as a puppy and full of so much life. The BEST boy. Truly.

Here's the thing... sometimes a set of beautiful, professional photos is exactly what a rescue pup needs. A little extra sparkle, a little more engagement on their adoption post, and suddenly the right family sees them. That tiny boost can be the difference between "still waiting" and "going home."

So today before we close our week, Let me present you this big-hearted boy and his equally gorgeous labrador friends, hoping someone out there is ready to open their door to their home and heart.

There is something quietly powerful about the moment an older sibling meets the new baby.
