I went on this pilgrimage to dig into my soul with savage clarity and to breathe a breath of cosmic fresh air.

Man, oh man... What a journey. 400 miles from Lisbon, and around 200 miles walking from Porto.

I’m grateful for this voyage, across Portugal, across Spain, but more importantly, for the journey within. More than anything, I’m eternally grateful for the people I met along the way who offered me kindness, conversation, food, and simple humanity. The point was not to be a tourist but a pilgrim, something I realize most can’t understand, but that’s ok. To the friends I made along the way, Buen Camino, amigos, peregrinos.

I’d like to thank my higher power for giving me the strength to accomplish this journey without injury and without blisters. I’ll always carry this trip and its lessons in my heart.

Visiting the Cathedral of Santiago is a severely disappointing experience. They don’t let pilgrims enter the pilgrims mass with their backpacks. Imagine that?! lol. This would have been nice to know before spending almost an hour in line before being denied, which is absolutely hilarious to me. They CHARGE for the ability to simply VIEW the Portico of Glory, and appears to be a guard there that won’t let you touch it, which is kind of the point. This feels like an absolute smack to a pilgrims face. You’re telling me, with the Catholics church’s insane wealth and assets, all that gold, not paying taxes and taking in tithes, that they still want to squeeze a buck out of pilgrims? They say never meet your heroes, but the cathedral experience left an extremely bitter taste in my mouth and some added resentment towards the church. Shame. Good thing I was mindful of the journey and not the destination.
