How’s everyone doing with their first full week back? Personally I’m easing myself back into things. I took a much needed 11 days off and spent a lot of time reading, relaxing and watching TV.

I wanted to take some time to re-introduce myself and also check in and say hi! My name is Lan, and if you have been here a while or just got here, welcome to my little space of squares.

I am a photographer and my calling is to make my clients shine when I capture their images.

My photography has taken me around the world and captured so many people and everyday I feel very lucky that it is something I get to do for my profession.

This is where I will be sharing my work as a people photographer. That includes family photography, children, personal portraits, headshots and maternity.

Aside from business, here’s a little about me. I live in San Jose with my husband Ian and my dog Gus, the handsome boy in this photo. When we’re both not working, we spend our days going on mini adventures and photographing, but since 2020 hit, we’ve spent our days doing house projects, exploring our own city and neighboring cities, taking walks with Gus, reading or just enjoying cuddle puddles with Gus as we work our way through Netflix.

Looking forward to the year, I’m surrendering because if there’s one big thing 2020 has taught us, we really have no idea what can happen. So, I’m working on what I can control, like some things I’ve been working on that I’m excited to share in the coming weeks, including a huge project that I’ve been thinking about for the past 5 years and I’m ready to take a leap.

When the world felt like it stopped in March, I was filled with a lot of fear for the unknown. I remember calling my mom everyday to tell her to stay home and I would go out and get anything she needed. I was scared and so worried. Seeing the deaths around the world made me so incredibly sad for everyone and I reached out to friends across the world to connect and see how they were doing. What was so unique about 2020 was that we were all going through similar things together around the same time.

I think this brought us a closer even though we had to be apart. With forced distance, brought creativity on how to connect. I slowed down, and had long conversations. I let go of what I couldn't control and focused on what I could.

The pandemic made us stay home and open our eyes to injustices members of our communities have been facing and it brought a tidal wave of action across the world. We marched. We wrote and we got to work.

Instead of thinking about what I was losing with shoots and work, I turned my focus to thinking of what I could do to help.

From that I was able to fundraise with my photography and with your help, we have raised $3,000 to donate, and with Ian's company matching, we donated a total of $5,000. $4,000 to 3 organizations focused on fighting for BLM and $1,000 to CRLAF whose mission is to provide legal services for farm and agricultural workers of California.

Going forward, I am changing my business model to donate 10% of my photography earnings each month to organizations that are focused on justice for our most vulnerable communities.

It’s because of you that we were able to do this. Thank you so much to everyone who has worked with me this year. I do not take it for granted that even during such a tumultuous year, you chose me to photograph your family, your work or your business. I am forever grateful.

One thing we love about CsJ fest is that in order to pull off such a large production, we truly need to call on the support and gifts of our whole community! We get to see what’s possible when we work together to bring forth the resources and make this big labor of love happen.
