The baby who stayed in your arms last year. The toddler who now wants to walk everywhere. The little one who needs a few minutes to warm up… and then decides we’re all friends and it’s time for a full performance. 😂

One of my favorite parts of photographing families is getting to catch up on life between the pictures. Hearing about your vacations, a new home, new adventures, and all the things your little ones are suddenly into. I remember them one way, and then here they come, a little taller, with new expressions and so much more to show me.

If you remember the smiley baby from last year, swipe to the end. That same little face is now walking around with a whole personality of his own! He took a little time to warm up this year, but once he did, we got the biggest smiles, silly moments, and a demonstration of his very impressive leg stretches. Apparently, our session needed a little stretching break. 🥹

I’d brought along a wooden airplane, and we had real airplanes passing overhead, too. His parents later told me he’s really into airplanes right now. I had no idea when I packed it, which made it even sweeter. A little piece of who he is at this age, right there in his photographs.

To the families who keep coming back: I hope you know how much these reunions mean to me. I get excited to see you, to hear what’s new, and to discover who your babies are becoming.

They’re growing up right in front of my lens, and I feel so lucky to be someone who gets to remember them along with you. 🤍

I wish you could see yourself the way I do when the light finds you.

You’re holding your baby, brushing the hair off your child’s face, or laughing with the person you love… and for a second, I’m overwhelmed by how beautiful it all is.

That’s why I get so excited. Why I ask you to pause. Why, after all these years, I still drive home thinking about a few seconds of light.

I felt something when I took your photograph. Every time I send a gallery, I hope you feel it too.

Sorry, Mom. The light in that random field was really good. 😂

Photography has me meeting strangers, fixing their hair, and saying “trust me” while pointing at a bush. Forty-five minutes later, I’m cheering for their kids and hearing their life story. 🤍📸

Maamas of the Class of 2027 and 2028, this is a little reminder from my heart. 🤍

This past week, I’ve had a sudden wave of senior portrait inquiries, and having to turn away so many seniors has honestly been heartbreaking. After maternity, senior sessions hold such a special place in my heart.

Through conversations with families this year, I’ve realized how little time some schools give students to submit their yearbook portraits. Every school is different, but several families I’ve spoken with have found themselves rushing to meet a deadline. Some have even told me their seniors had to submit selfies because there simply wasn’t time.

And these kids already have so much on their plates. Classes, applications, sports, activities… and somewhere in between, they’re supposed to find a photographer they love and plan a session during one of our busiest seasons.

I’ve photographed several seniors recently, with more coming over the next few weeks, but my calendar is now so full that I can’t accommodate everyone I wish I could.

So, for those heading into senior year next fall, consider the summer before school starts for portraits. Time to choose outfits, plan a meaningful location, and actually enjoy the session without a yearbook deadline hovering over it. Just check the school’s photo requirements first.

Next year, I’ll be sharing this reminder much earlier, too. It’s never too early to start planning for something this special.

Maamas, I know… one minute we’re packing their little lunchboxes, and suddenly we’re talking about graduation.

These years go by so quickly. Let’s make time to remember who they are right here: their laughter, their personality, and all that excitement about what comes next.

“I hope we get some wind.”

So many of my mamas say this now, and it makes me smile every single time. They’re already imagining their hair flying, their dress moving, and a few quiet moments out in the open with the people they love.

And when the wind arrives, they enjoy it. They laugh, let their hair go, and hold their bump a little closer. I love watching them feel beautiful with the breeze doing its own thing around them.

It makes me just as happy when they look at a cloudy sky and get excited about the soft light. An evening doesn’t have to be sunny to be gorgeous. There is so much beauty in the clouds, in windswept hair, in the little pauses between laughter.

This mama brought something extra special, too. She found this dress in her mom’s closet, and we were both equally excited that she could wear it for her maternity photographs. A dress from her mother’s closet, coming along for such a precious chapter in her own motherhood story. Watching it move in the breeze made me love it even more. 🤎

And then there are the two dog siblings… the first babies, joining in while everyone waits for the newest little love.

I adore having them there. The extra cuddles, the little interruptions, the way they find their places beside their people. Someday, this baby will look at these photographs and see the two furry faces that were already part of home before they arrived. That thought gets me every time.

All of these little things belong in the memories. The dress with a story. Both dogs, because of course they’re part of this chapter, too. The wind everyone hoped for. The cloudy evening that turned out to be so beautiful.

Mama, so much of that beauty comes from you. Your smile when the breeze catches you by surprise. Your hands resting on your belly. The way you lean into the person beside you while you wait for someone you already love so much.

A golden evening, a grey sky, a little wind in your hair… there is beauty to be found in all of it. And I love when my mamas arrive ready to feel it, too.

The signal fades, and you finally exhale.

No messages to answer. No rush to be somewhere else. Just your hand on your belly, the person you love beside you, and a little one who already means the whole world.

Before you get to hold your baby, you get to hold these days. The little kicks. The way daddy leans in to whisper something to your belly. The conversations about who this tiny person might be.

This part deserves a little time away from everything asking for your attention. A chance to slow down and feel it all, together.

And someday, when your baby asks, “Was I in there?” you’ll have these photographs to pull them close and say, “Yes, sweetheart. And we already loved you so much.”

Let’s talk websites today. What makes someone look through a photographer’s website and think, “This is the one”?

The photographs? The editing? The words describing the experience? Or a little bit of everything?

Some inquiries mention such thoughtful details—the movement in a gallery, expressions that feel natural, or even the phrase “comfortable and not overly staged” on an FAQ page.

For a photographer, receiving an email like that is such a lovely feeling. It means the approach behind the photographs has come through, and someone feels connected to it before a session has even happened.

There are so many talented photographers, each bringing a different eye and heart to their work. Being chosen for that particular way of capturing people—the candid moments, the movement, the way the photographs feel is incredibly special.

When searching for a photographer, what matters most? And what turns browsing a website into sending that first inquiry?

I keep coming back to the way her dress caught the wind.

She was standing by the water, one hand on her belly, smiling to herself and for a moment, everything felt so still, even with all that fabric flying around her.

That’s what I love about these photos. She looks beautiful, of course. But she also looks like herself, taking a little time to be in this moment before life changes again.

I hope she looks back at these someday and remembers exactly how it felt. 🤍
