Moonset at Badlands this week was... stunning.
My buddy and I set out for the desert early Saturday morning on a hunt. We decided to catch sunset and cook some dinner up at Dante’s View which was quite nice. Definitely worth a visit up there if you’re ever in the area. While we were up there, we met Daniel, a guy from Germany who was in the states for work for a week and had decided to come to Death Valley to take pictures of the Milky Way. We chatted for a bit and soon he joined our wolf pack. Around 10:30PM, we brought him down to where we spent the rest of the evening foregoing sleep and shooting until sunrise.

Last night’s moon rise was EPIC. I’ve been in LA for just about half a year now and am finally getting a decent idea of where to look for decent places to shoot. That being said, I completely put off location scouting for this moonrise until the night before and almost blew it. Still without an inkling of an idea of where to go up until yesterday afternoon, I decided to head to Elysian Park since it’s situated up on a hill and offers incredible views of the LA sprawl in every direction. With this in mind, I figured I’d be able to spend an hour jaunting around until I found something of interest. After a lot of second guessing, I eventually settled on an overlook by a couple of baseball fields and snapped away as an incredibly orange moon entered the night sky from behind the snow covered San Gabriel mountains.
