Not a bunch to do during this Coronavirus lockdown but think about some of the incredible people and experiences I’ve had. One of the better days of my now-approaching two year travel adventure was spent with these two incredibly talented artists and wonderful humans.

I reached out on IG to and .artist and had the opportunity to spend the day with them, learn about their process, the work they do for their communities, and the evolution of the Lisbon art community itself. That time inspired me to learn about the local art communities as I visited dozens more countries throughout the world. And they were also too of the kindest and most humble people I’ve met.

I remember my first time in Lisbon 20 years ago... the graffiti was everywhere and it was ugly. But in 2008, the city began to sponsor artists from Lisbon and around the world to essentially turn the city into an art museum. And as I’ve seen in cities where graffiti is accepted, sponsored and cared for, it adds to, rather than destroys the city’s character (as meaningless tagging does).

I recommend learning about the history and political context behind the street art in cities as you travel. Take tours that responsibly give back to those communities. It’s a unique, and interesting way to take in the beauty and personality of a city.

Thanks to Nomen and Utopia. Looking forward to reconnecting next time I’m in Lisbon. 🤗 🙌🏼
