Had the pleasure of visiting Bungalow last month, and honestly, what stayed with me most was the team.

Chef Vikas Khanna may be the face of Bungalow, but it takes a village to make a room run the way that one does and Sameer Bhatt, GM & Partner is a huge part of it. Raised in New Delhi where hospitality isn’t a job so much as a way of being, he trained at ICE and came up through GupShup, Eleven Madison Park, and Le Pavillon under Daniel Boulud. You feel all of it the second you walk in: the precision of world-class service wrapped in something genuinely warm.

Lovely getting to spend time with him and even lovelier getting to photograph him. 📸

SF is notorious for its foggy summer evenings, but every once in a while you get lucky with a night like this… where the fog sits perfectly below you and everything above it is warm, golden and dreamy. 🤍

There are a million ways to carry your country with you.

Through its food. Its stories. Its traditions. Its people.

On Independence Day, we remember the generations who fought for the freedom we have today - but I also think about all the generations after them, and the beautiful ways they’ve carried India forward. The dreams they’ve chased, the stories they’ve shared, and the little pieces of India they’ve taken with them around the world.

Chef Vikas Khanna’s journey is one of those stories.

From Amritsar to New York, life may have taken him thousands of miles from where he started, but India never really left him.

Through Bungalow, he’s created a little piece of home - a place where our food, our traditions, our stories and our culture are celebrated and shared with the world.

When I visited him in New York, I got to experience that warmth firsthand. Of course, he had me sit down for lunch - because in true Indian fashion, you simply cannot let someone leave without feeding them. ❤️

And maybe that’s what I love most about where we come from.

No matter where life takes us, somehow we find ways to take a little bit of home with us.

You can leave India, but India never really leaves you. 🇮🇳

I met Shali & Bovey for the first time 7 years ago when they were preparing to become first-time parents… and I was only 2 years into my business!

Since then, they’ve moved to Hawaii and when they reached out to let me know they would be back in the Bay Area to deliver their third and asked me to document it, I could not have been more thrilled.

The absolute best part about documenting growing families… is truly watching them grow. And it’s crazy to think the sweet little boy I met 7 years ago is now a big brother to two!
