Hello, my name is Maria Shayna, I’m a wedding, natural portrait and event photographer in Sonoma County, California. AND, I’m getting married in 13 days (after nearly 11 years together)!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and talk about my own wedding coming up on our 11th year anniversary on 10/17/2020.

This photo is from this month and like our nearly 11 years of love, our relationship is a little untraditional, spontaneous, and fun. My partner Erick proposed last year on a 10-year celebratory trip to Maui with a gift store ring of a plumeria. It was incredibly sweet, sentimental and beautiful and the trip itself was the gift worth celebrating.

When we got back, we looked at rings together and put off wedding planning until we couldn’t any longer. This month, he found this beauty. He showed it to me ahead of buying it and I was enchanted. We went together to pick out his suit for the wedding and he presented the ring to me in our family’s San Francisco home, overlooking the skyline. ❤️

We have been through a lot this year: a virus that has effected so many close to us, losses of multiple lives, including my partner’s mom, births, and now local fires. And that’s why we decided to get married this year. Despite the pain, the heartache, the grieving, the fear—there is love. We have each other, we’re living our lives together, and we are committed to one another, and that is worthy of celebrating.
