This WWII scrapbook was recently donated to the USS Hornet - Sea, Air and Space Museum. It belonged to LT William H. Winner who flew the Avenger off USS Hornet CV-12 in 1944. 🇺🇸

In the mail today I received the dogtag and personal photographs of Peter Lamprinos who was killed during WWII aboard the USS Hornet. These precious items were donated by the family of his late widow. 🙏

I first learned about the story of Lamprinos while interviewing Gene Millen. This led to wanting to know more and began the search to locate any desendants. Last week we were successeful, and now we can place his dogtag aboard the USS Hornet - Sea, Air and Space Museum. 🇺🇸

I called Gene Millen this morning to share the news, and how his oral history has kept the memory of his shipmate alive. Millen will be celebrating his 101st birthday on April 18, and he is the last original crew member of USS Hornet CV-12. ⚓️

Peter Lamprinos was also a Greek-American, so this one is extra special for me! 🇬🇷

Take a tour with me through this really neat WW2 museum in China that honors the Doolittle Raid and Rescue.

Returned to China where the Doolittle Raiders parachuted after their daring 1942 mission, and met with descendants who helped rescue them. Special thanks to the Memorial Hall to the Doolittle Raid and the Quzhou Society for the History of the Doolittle Raid for this unforgettable experience! 🪂
