💙 Flashback Friday 💙

Healing Through Self-Expression: Networking Mixer, Poetry Slam & Film Screening at Intersection for the Arts

Co-curated in collaboration with SF Songbird Festival

From the moment the doors opened, the energy was grounded, open, and real.

Folks didn’t just come to perform or spectate.
They showed up fully.
To be witnessed and to witness others in return.

We felt it in the hugs that lingered a little longer.
In the cheers that came from the chest.
In the quiet eye contact across the room that said, “I see you.”

To everyone who came through and poured into that space - thank you.
And to those who followed up after with messages, reflections, love… we received all of it.

This is what happens when we create rooms with intention.
Not just events, but experiences rooted in care, honesty, and community.

We don’t just gather.
We build what we once needed. 💙

Cultivate environments where Black and Brown artists are supported, not extracted from.

This isn’t just a statement - it’s a practice. A responsibility. A way of moving.

It means building spaces where creativity is nurtured, not mined.
Where artists are resourced, compensated, and cared for - not just invited in when it’s convenient.
Where the labor, the story, and the spirit behind the work are all honored equally.

It means asking deeper questions:
Who is being poured into?
Who is being paid?
Who is being sustained after the moment passes?

Because support doesn’t end at visibility.
It looks like infrastructure.
It looks like follow-through.
It looks like making sure people can continue - not just contribute.

This is about shifting from consumption to connection.
From access to accountability.
From moment to ecosystem.

It’s about creating rooms where people don’t have to shrink, translate, or prove their value to belong.
Where culture is protected, not diluted.
Where community is felt in the way people are held, not just in the way spaces are filled.

This is the work.
And it requires intention, consistency, and care at every level.

The future of creative ecosystems depends on what we choose to build and how we choose to sustain it.

Let’s continue to build ✨

Happy Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️

Here's a Flashback to a night that continues to live in our hearts.

The closing reception of Healing Through Self Expression: The 465 Experience marked a powerful end to weeks of storytelling, creativity, and collective care. From the moment people entered the space, there was a noticeable shift - an openness, a softness, a shared understanding that this was a place to simply be.

The room was alive in an intentional way. Conversations flowed with ease, laughter echoed, and moments of stillness were just as present. Over 75 community members gathered and were nourished with a shared meal - an offering that extended beyond food. It became a reminder that care can be simple, that feeding one another is a form of love, and that community is something we actively practice together.

A standout moment of the evening was the Trans Day of Remembrance & Resilience performance by Nekia Wright, Fox Lyraphic, and Gala Aranaga. Their presence transformed the room. Through sound, movement, and intention, they created space to honor grief while holding resilience at the center. The audience met them with deep attention and care, creating a collective moment that felt both tender and powerful.

More than a closing, this night reflected the heart of the entire experience - what it means to build spaces rooted in expression, art, nourishment, and belonging.

The impact of that night didn’t end when the doors closed. It continues to ripple outward, carried by everyone who was there.

Thank you to Q***rly Complex for your vision, care, and collaboration in bringing this space to life 🩷 ✨

🙌🏽 ✨ Flashback to January 31st: Healing Through Self-Expression: Liberation, Resilience & Resources & The OpuLens of Blackness Closing Reception

We gathered at the African American Art & Culture Complex to close out Healing Through Self-Expression: Liberation, Resilience & Resources alongside The OpuLens of Blackness - and the night felt like a living embodiment of everything the exhibitions stood for.

This show was rooted in three pillars:
✨ Liberation
✨ Resilience
✨ Resources

And the Closing Reception carried all three.

We honored the freedom to create authentically.
We acknowledged the resilience it takes to keep showing up as Black artists in the city of San Francisco.
And we affirmed that resourcing artists - financially, tangibly, in communally - is how the work lives beyond the walls of a gallery.

One of the most powerful moments of the evening was our panel conversation exploring Black opulence as a practice of healing. How it shows up in our creative work. In our relationships. In how we protect our energy. In how we invest in each other.

The conversation was honest. Grounded. Expansive.
The audience leaned in.

Artists sold work.
Community invested directly in creators.
Support moved from words into action.

We closed the night in gratitude — reminded that when we gather with intention and affirm Black abundance, we are practicing collective liberation in real time.

Deep appreciation to the for their stewardship of space and their commitment to serve Black arts and culture. This experience was possible because of your partnership.

We're still feeling the impact. Still carrying it forward. ✨
