Chet Davis Photography I love capturing the beauty of our world and sharing it with others. I hope you enjoy what I capture and share with you. Chet Davis

I love experiencing the wonder of our planet; the amazing animals, friendly people, and lovely landscapes. I've been immersed in digital storytelling (video making and photography) for more than 35 years, having taught workshops and classes to help people realize their own fulfillment through a lens. I see photography and videography as an opportunity to capture the feeling I am experiencing in that moment as a way to share it with others. I know that when I am looking more closely at the world around me, I am definitely seeing more of it - and experiencing life on a more grand scale. I am grateful firstly that this craft has allowed me to be more present in this life, and secondly provided me with the means to share it with others. I make many of my photos available for those who wish to experience these feelings and moods in their own space.

The art of photography, I believe, is primarily linked with the skill and desire to observe. Choosing to observe our surroundings and truly live every moment yields opportunities to capture a moment to preserve and share.

I captured this sunset while on a walk at the Aulani Disney resort on the island of Oahu, Hawaii this past January. I love the range of colors in the sky, just after sundown as well as the silhouettes of the palm trees.

While visiting Grand Marais, Minnesota (on the shore of Lake Superior) we were walking out to the breakwater and noticed this lovely garden of flowers growing naturally beside the paved pathway. I couldn't help but notice the variety and shape of these flowers and had to capture them in a photo. This image seems so bright and cheery to me that a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson seems appropriate : "The earth laughs in flowers"

I captured this photo of a Green Boa at the San Francisco Zoo last week.

Using the Macro setting I love how this turned out (behind glass). The texture and the skeletal structure under its jaw is fascinating to me. I kept waiting for the Boa to put out its tongue but it did not.

On our trip around (part of) Lake Superior last month we enjoyed a walk along the shore of the lake in Duluth, Minnesota. I loved the autumn colors on this shrub (or immature tree) that was nestled between rocks on the shore. The expanse of the lake and a dramatic sky complete the image.

On our recent road trip we stopped at the provincial park to experience Kakabeka Falls - Ontario, Canada. I captured several photos and some videos. I enjoy this image using the long exposure effect on the Falls.

I've enjoyed so many views and experiences walking around the Lagoon of a park near our home. A few days ago while taking an evening walk there we were treated to this magnificently colored sky with its reflection on the water.

Apart from the lovely colors in both the sky and the reflection, I think the dry reeds in the foreground as well as the silhouette of the trees and their reflection on the water add to this image.

My brother in-law was visiting today and we wanted to share something new with him - we climbed the Greenwich Steps to Coit Tower. I have been to the tower a number of times but can't remember ever going to the top. The elevator was out so we took the stairs. I saw this little circular window while climbing up the 13 flights of stairs and loved the view. I had to capture and share this image.

I woke up early yesterday (to order my new iPhone 18Pro) and since I was awake went off to experience the sunrise - so glad I did! I was up in the Marin Headlands about 1 hour before the sun showed up. This was an image I captured after I arrived - the pre-dawn sky was beautiful colors with the bridge lights gleaming.

It's hard to tell that this image is not night but I can attest to the early morning hour, which was cold and windy :)

“There are five Great Lakes, but only one is Superior”.

Our recent trip around part of Lake Superior allowed me to see the greatness of this huge body of water. I learned that it creates its own weather - fog, gale-force winds, and massive waves exceeding 30 feet. The water contained in Lake Superior could cover _all_ of North and South America with 12 inches of water.

If I were to choose one photo I captured of the Lake on this trip I would choose this one- my wife standing on the shore of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. I believe this adult standing next to the lake, dwarfed by its sheer size and the expansive cloud-filled sky gives the feeling of its size.

During our trip around Lake Superior, we visited the wonderful Pukaskwa National Park outside Marathon, Ontario (Canada). We were just starting our first hike in the park, on the Southern Headland Trail, when we heard a rustling in one of the trees before us and saw movement. Upon closer inspection we say this beautiful woodpecker at work.

I took several photos of this winged wonder as it kept moving around quickly and often had a branch or pine needle blocking a clear view. I was happy to end up with one good image that captures that moment.
