This year has been a hard time of transition for myself.

I walked on a line,
set by others,
unsure of where I stood,
but always remember
STAND ON THE LINE.

I loved with my heart on the line,
proving I was good enough,
unaware of what that was,
between sufficient and perfect,
but always remember,
TRY HARDER, LOVE MORE.

The darker side of the moon,
lost in your stars,
my life and emotions became the black hole,
leading down to darkness, confusion,
but always remember,
THAT THEY DESERVE YOUR LIGHT.

That is what my inner person would tell myself, and I am learning to understand that intimacy and love and care comes from being accepted and valued for being yourself, and that is enough.

I am learning that I get to stand up for myself, and that is self love, and having boundaries is hard to have, and at first it may seem to others as hard, or frustrating or hurt, but it comes back ten fold when there is acceptance and respect.

I don’t need to keep trying harder for those who want to walk away or hurt me. I don’t want to push people to be in my life, I know that I am worthy of love, being enough despite my mistakes, I am growing.

I am starting to understand that I am a good person, who is learning and is learning what is okay and not okay. I often give people grace and love and kindness before myself. It is hard lesson, but I also deserve the grace, love and kindness I give to others for my self.

I have been feeling overwhelmed about posting and making art again, and maybe it is a sign that I need to be vulnerable again, and release these emotions and lessons.

Whirlwind emerged from a period of intensely powerful emotions that I needed to release. This painting captures the tumultuous nature of healing, emphasizing that the process is not linear or consistently progressive. Rather, healing involves cycles of growth and pain, with moments where the emotional storm feels overwhelming. The painting reflects the idea that healing is accompanied by shadows—areas of unresolved pain or darkness that come into focus as the light of healing shines upon them. The swirling motion in the artwork symbolizes both the chaos and the transformative potential of working through these shadows, illustrating that while healing involves uncovering and addressing deeper issues, it is a dynamic and ongoing journey.

Funeral is a poignant painting that encapsulates a deeply spiritual moment of reconciliation and release. The painting reflects a personal journey of seeking forgiveness from Mother Earth. In this sacred act, I placed my third eye on the ground, touching the very blood of the Earth, and wept as I said goodbye to my thyroid, which was about to be surgically removed. The painting captures the moment of my tears—depicted in golden hues—falling onto the Earth, symbolizing a release of energy and a heartfelt apology. The ripples spreading out from the point where my tears touch the ground represent Mother Earth's acceptance of this energy, expanding outward and symbolizing healing and transformation. 'Forgiven' is not only an expression of personal regret and farewell but also a testament to the interconnectedness between the self and the natural world, and the process of letting go and finding peace in the midst of change.

Reflection is a photograph that captures a moment of deep contemplation, symbolized by the act of preparing to dive into the water. This image represents the long and difficult process I went through before deciding to undergo surgery—a decision that wasn't made quickly or easily. The hesitation and reflection in this photograph mirror the internal struggle I faced, as I grappled with the weight of the choice ahead. Ultimately, the decision to go through with the surgery wasn't entirely for myself, but also for the sake of others, adding another layer of complexity to the journey. This piece is a visual expression of that emotional and reflective process, portraying the tension between personal needs and the expectations or desires of those around me.

How Do I Take My Photographs?

I take my photographs by carefully setting up my camera on a tripod in front of the scene. Using a remote trigger with a timer, I position myself and move into the pose I’ve envisioned. It’s essential for me to be in control of the camera and the shot because this process is about reclaiming my own body and deciding how I am portrayed. Through this method, I ensure that I am represented exactly as I wish, on my own terms

De Novo, created in collaboration with Nick Adelizi, is a 3D print of a body scan of Lina Jane, prepared for copper electroplating. The title, a Latin phrase meaning 'from the beginning,' 'anew,' or 'afresh,' resonates deeply with the fetal position of the statue, symbolizing a return to origins and the beginning of something new. The concept also parallels a trial de novo, where a case is retried as if it had never been heard before, reflecting the uncertainty and unknowns surrounding this procedure. This piece captures the essence of starting over and the complexities that come with facing something entirely anew, despite the experiences of others.

Droplet captures the moment a droplet of water meets the surface, sending ripples outward. This painting reflects the idea that, although obstacles may hinder the ripple’s path, the energy continues to move and expand regardless. The ripple serves as a metaphor for the unstoppable force of energy and growth, showing that, just like the ripples in water, we too continue to move forward and evolve, no matter the challenges or hindrances in our way.

Manifestation is a photograph taken in Denmark, set against the backdrop of my painting Genesis. In this image, I capture the extent of the eczema that had developed on the back of my neck—an outward sign of the emotional stress that had been festering within me for years. It wasn't until later that I recognized the connection between the issues on the front of my neck, with my thyroid, and the eczema on the back. Both were physical manifestations of the emotional turmoil I had been carrying, a reflection of the years I spent suppressing my truth and not speaking out. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of how our inner state can manifest outwardly, often in ways we don't immediately understand.

This work reflects the need to shield myself from the uncertainty and the frustrating guessing game that doctors engaged in, as they grappled with the unknowns of my condition. The only solution they offered was removal, without clear answers as to why this was happening. This piece also speaks to the broader issue of how women, who are more prone to thyroid issues, are often not taken seriously in medical settings. Dismissive phrases like 'It's all mental,' 'It's in your head,' or 'This is normal, don’t worry about it,' highlight the struggle to be heard and validated in such situations.

Coronal Anterior is a piece derived from the ultrasound scans of my thyroid nodule, captured in Denmark. This artwork represents what the nodule looked like, as it was being measured. The fragmented nature of the scans reflects the complexity and uncertainty of my condition during that time, as well as the limitations of the medical imaging. This piece encapsulates the fragmented understanding and the partial glimpses into a hidden reality within my body.
