We had the privilege of traveling to Tennessee to document the powerhouse operation and the vibrant individuals who keep everything moving from the ground up. The energy on the floor was unmatched, filled with dynamic movement, great camaraderie, and a deep sense of pride in the work.

Our goal was to highlight the diverse faces and the dedication of the team powering this facility. Moving through the space to capture these genuine smiles, candid moments, and the professional synergy of the crew was an absolute highlight.

Stepping into Taylor Smalls’ (.smalls) West Oakland studio is like entering a sanctuary of color and truth. 🎨

Taylor has been a dedicated gynocentric painter since 2012, and her work is a profound study in what it means to truly see Black and Brown skin. While traditional depictions often dull or neglect the complexity of melanated women, Taylor does the exact opposite. She amplifies the kaleidoscopic depth, layering highly pigmented color to reveal the vibrant, underlying tones that have always been there.
