Spotted this beautiful Southern Pacific Rattlesnake while mountain biking in South OC—an essential predator that helps keep our ecosystem in balance by controlling rodent populations and supporting biodiversity.

Rattlesnakes aren’t out to get us—they give clear warning signs and prefer to be left alone. If you see one, admire from a safe distance and give it space to move on. These wild neighbors are a vital part of our outdoors and deserve respect, not fear.

✨ Pro tip: Carry a Sawyer venom extractor in your first aid kit—while not a replacement for medical care, it’s a useful tool in the rare event of a bite, especially when exploring remote trails. It’s lightweight and fits in a pocket!

On the eve of a new year—a new start—I often think about all that I want to accomplish, the places I want to visit, the people I want to be with, the love I want to share and receive, and all the things I want to do. So I start to plan for my expectations.

But this year, I want to also challenge myself to truly accept and embrace the unexpected, the mysterious, the unknown and the unplanned—All the things that will test the courage, wisdom, the peacemaker, the father, the lover, the leader, and the warrior inside of me.

I strive to meet the unexpected this year by courageously loving and healing. I will wisely fight, peacefully speak and attentively listen. I will passionately climb, I may fall but will get back up again. I will ultimately lead myself and those around me to surpassing and sharing my success.

This year I will fiercely love and live, and become a better man for myself, the people I know, and the ones I have yet to meet.
