Laurie Ashley Photography San Diego wedding & portrait photographer looking to capture the greatest moments of your life.

Ever since I was a little kid, I have always been obsessed with taking photos. When I was young, I would go to summer camp and my parents would buy me one disposable camera per week that I could use to capture my summer memories. I would be so excited to get the pictures developed and I would eagerly flip through the photos after we picked them up from the drug store. I can still remember the joy

I felt to have a tangible keepsake of these special memories in the form of a photograph. Looking back on those old photos, I still feel that sense of joy. Now that I'm older, I want to share this passion and capture those special memories for other people! It would bring me so much happiness to create these photographic keepsakes for your family. Please feel free to contact me so that we can work together to capture these special moments!

When Cailee first told me her vision for her engagement session, I immediately began envisioning scenes just like the photos you see in this set. Knowing we’d be shooting mid-day at a newer venue meant forcing myself out of my comfort zone... and while my personality type struggles with doing that, I cannot even explain how happy I feel once I enter that uncomfortable territory. Not only did I have so much fun with Cailee & Court just hanging out and getting to know one another, I was SO inspired by their love & this incredibly beautiful venue. Plus these two were so down for any of my ideas which just let the creativity totally flow — I truly feel like this shoot was a collaboration between photographer & clients. I have so, so, so many I want to share but these will have to do for now. 🥰♥️

Two of the kindest, most in love, most gorgeous people you will ever meet right here! I have such a soft spot for my fellow military couples — this life brings with it a tornado of emotions, but the reunions sure are sweet. ♥️✨

Two weeks ago I had the honor of photographing my sweet Gaby marry her best friend, Alex, on their 7 year dating anniversary. Gaby has been my hair stylist for over 3 years now and in that time she’s become so much more than a hair stylist. I look forward to my hair appointments because I just love catching up with her and chatting about everything under the sun. Not only is she an insanely talented stylist, her passion for her craft is so obvious. I had heard a lot about Alex from my many appointments, but it was so nice to finally meet him on Friday and see their love in action. Alex is joyful & friendly — he just exudes this air of kindness & the way these two look at one another… well, you can see that for yourself in the photos.

Of course if you’ve been following my account for some time, you also know how special intimate weddings in Big Bear Lake are to me, as they remind me so much of my own 2018 wedding. This mountain town is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. It holds so many special memories for me and I love getting to see my couples create their own memories in this special little town. The emotions I associate with Big Bear also inspire the hell out of me. I left this day feeling so complete, like my cup had been filled to the brim. Gaby & Alex — congratulations, lovebirds!

I LOVE the idea of urban shooting but honestly it’s a huge struggle for me. I often get overwhelmed and flustered by everything going on in an urban setting — varied lighting situations, cars driving by, feeling like I’m disturbing people walking by, busy backgrounds, etc. But this little urban area, Hillcrest, is by far my favorite San Diego neighborhood — it’s where I called home for five years. Where I moved into my first studio apartment. Where I worked at two restaurants that brought me so many friends & happy memories. Where Brian and I rented our first apartment together.

Out of everywhere in SD, Hillcrest feels the most like home and truly like one of the happiest neighborhoods in the country. Spending the evening there with Renata & Gabi (and their puppy, Sushi!) was such a joy... my cheeks actually hurt from laughing once I left! These two have been together for 8 years but I swear they still have that new love spark.

I had such a great conversation with Sara & David during their engagement session (tbh we had lots of great conversations... I seriously love my 2021 couples so much and have been having a blast getting to know each of them!). Nowadays, there is soooo much content out there and I know that this can pressure to have the “perfect” photos. Or maybe you’ll see a beautiful image and want that exact same image for your session. But our job as photographers is to capture the essence of YOU! I can go into a shoot with a mind bursting with inspiration, but honestly I always wind up working off of my couple & their connection. Every relationship is different, and every couple displays a different version of love in front of my camera. No matter what you wear or where we shoot or what type of sunset we get, I just want to capture photos that make you feel something honest. I never want to go into a session with a specific agenda for your final gallery... i just want to capture your you-ness. And I hope you see that in your final photos and that they are a reflection of your love & happiness in this specific season of your colorful life. ♥️

I feel like the first image of this set is incredibly fitting because yesterday felt like pure victory for these two. Amy & Tim have been planning their wedding for over a year. They wanted an intimate elopement style wedding in the mountains from day 1 which seems easy enough, right? Welp, not in 2020. They shifted gears when the pandemic hit to plan their mountain wedding closer to home as opposed to mammoth lakes. All seemed to be falling into place when the wildfires hit California, closing the national forest they had centered their plan B around. So with only two weeks to spare they set out to re-arrange their plans AGAIN while still creating a wedding day that felt honest to them & their love story. And it was absolutely perfect.

We met up at 6 am to watch the sunrise over the desert, right off the Pacific Crest Trail where Amy & Tim had originally met. Once the sun started getting bright & hot, we headed to a little venue tucked away in the hills of Julian. Amy & Tim had the sweetest little ceremony in a sun-drenched meadow with only six guests. They popped champagne, chowed down on the most colorful cheese boards, danced under a live oak tree & enjoyed some gelato in the back of the car they sometimes call home when they’re out on an adventure. It may have been plan C, but tis day sure felt like everything was exactly the way it was meant to be.

Watched the sky explode with these two the other night! 😍 They were down to explore new corners of one of my favorite little secret spots and I loved adventuring with them. Their love is that sweet & gentle type that makes my job so dang easy. I truly cannot WAIT to capture their wedding day next summer!!! 💛

These two postponed their big wedding until 2021 but I'm so thankful I got to capture their "minimony" this year, too!

Signs it’s going to be a good wedding day: the moment you walk into the bridal suite, the mother of the bride asks you if you need anything to eat or drink haha! Seriously blown away but how wonderful & kind everyone was at last weekends beautiful wedding. It truly felt like such a fairytale for Amber & Storm and I’m so thankful to have been witness to their wedding day. This celebration may have originally been scheduled for earlier this year, but October 24th, 2020 couldn’t have been a more perfect day. The universe works in mysterious ways.

Whooops, I'm super behind on posting my recent work here but I have plenty to catch ya'll up on! This wedding day was stripped down to the essentials and now that I’ve lived it, I really couldn’t imagine it any other way. A backyard wedding at the grooms childhood home with the couples closest family & friends. Anna & Ryan are so incredibly kind and their love is big and beautiful. I truly felt like a friend from the moment I walked into the bridal suite and more than once I caught myself holding back tears and feeling overwhelmed by the amount of love this small group of friends & family share. The fact that everyone & everything was so colorful and beautiful was just the cherry on top of this intimate wedding day. My heart feels so full today & I’m beyond grateful to have been able to capture Mr. & Mrs. Morrell’s first day of forever. ♥️

Also, such an INCREDIBLE team of vendors that made everything more beautiful than words!:

This day was an absolute dream. When Amanda first inquired about having me photograph their intimate wedding in Big Bear, I was immediately excited by the opportunity because their plans sounded SO similar to my own wedding back in 2018. Unfortunately, the pandemic led to them postponing the party with their guests until next summer BUT I was so glad that these two still wanted to elope on their original wedding day up in my absolute favorite place. 🐻♥️

Their ceremony in the trees was absolutely perfect and I shed more than a few tears during their heartfelt vows. We caught a STUNNING sunset on the lakeshore and I can’t get over how incredibly kind & welcoming their small group of friends and family were all day. I was also struck by how Amanda & Dylan didn’t skip a beat — there was no sadness about their change in plans due to circumstances so far outside of their control; there was only joy and love. I couldn’t have been more honored to be a part of their adventure and I’ll be counting down the days until next years party. Adore you both, Mr. & Mrs. Polniak! (And Pickle and Chicken Nugget, too 🐶)
