Oh, this photo session was extra special to me!

I had the pleasure of photographing Athena about 15 years ago, when I had just gotten my first DSLR. Her mom and I worked together in a pretty intense environment, the kind where a small team becomes a little family.

So I got my camera and, with no real plan, set up my very first family session. It was Athena and her mom. She was about five or six.

The first thing she did? She ran away.
And I chased her.

Somehow, it turned into something beautiful. The images were soft, alive, full of feeling. They touched something in me. I still think about them. I wish I could find those photos somewhere on old burned discs. Maybe Perla still has them.

Looking back, I realize the core of my work has always been the same.
Emotion. Connection. Love. Meaning.

Recently Perla reached out and asked me to photograph Athena’s graduation.

I wasn’t just honored. I was genuinely shocked.
That little girl… graduating already. Wait, whaaat??? When did THAT happen?

What a full-circle moment…

Athena, you are so beautiful!
It was such a pleasure working with you!

I hope I captured your spirit, your light, and all the love that surrounds you.

May life be kind to you, and may it bring you many more achievements and beautiful experiences along the way.

One day
he will be taller than her.

A grown man with a deep voice
calling her “Ma.”

She will stand next to him
and feel tiny and proud all at once.

He will never quite know
how much she carried.
How long she held.
How many nights she did not sleep.

What her days were truly made of.
The thousand quiet tasks.
The parallel thoughts.
The constant keeping things together and moving.

He will remember her differently.

Her eyes warm with love.
Her arms around him.
Her hand in his as they ran together,
laughing in the sun.

She will remember the weight.
And the love that made it light.

And how, for a little while,
she was his whole world.

And he was hers.

Parental love passes softly
through ordinary days.

It lives in how you were held
when the world first felt too loud.
In the way someone knelt to your height,
listened all the way through,
stayed.

An inheritance we rarely name:
the memory of being loved.
It’s what holds us when life presses hard.

This is the legacy.
Passed gently.
Carried forward.
One family.
One moment.
One generation at a time.

Happy New Year, wonderful people!

In 2026, I wish to photograph children who are too busy exploring the world to stand still and smile for the camera, whose joy of discovery and movement bursts through the frame and shines in every image.

Little ones who are far too excited about living to listen to their grown-ups.

Cheers to those parents who let them!

Lots of love,
Luba

Every year when I photograph this wonderful family, I catch myself whispering under my breath, Look, Lyuba, look. They make it work.
They keep smiling.
They keep loving each other.

They keep choosing care, even in the daily grind of raising three little humans and a dog — somehow still graceful, beautiful, full of light and love.

There is something about family photography that moves my soul every single time. It reminds me how much love people pour into their days, and how the smallest gestures of everyday care quietly compound into a life of connection and meaning.

I hope you feel the love saturated in these images as much as I do.

Four years ago, when I photographed their wedding, Katya was pregnant with their little boy.
Last week, that same boy gave me flowers.

It was pure joy to see him, to watch who he’s becoming, and to witness the two of them growing and changing — somehow still the same beautiful souls who chose each other then and keep choosing each other now.

What a gift it is to witness a family unfold over time!

“Parenthood is the marathon we didn’t train for… No matter the hurdles, we keep on running.” — Jessica Urlichs

But it’s also joy.
It’s tenderness.
It’s that overwhelming love that makes us go as far as it takes, give as much as we can.

And time… it moves too fast. In the routines and the to-dos, it’s easy to forget how fleeting these days are. The little hands. The changing faces. The moments that vanish as quickly as they arrive.

These are the moments we’ll remember.
The ones we’ll want to hold on to.
The ones we’ll treasure forever.

I’m grateful for every family who pauses, shows up, and lets me capture that light and love, to hold it still, if only for a moment.

So tell me… what’s precious to you right now?
What is it from today that you most want to hold on to?

Children always know when you’re truly with them.
Not through poses, not through commands —
but through presence.
Through the kind of attention that lets them feel seen,
heard,
and free to simply be.

When there’s space to breathe,
to move,
to laugh —
they stop being “subjects” in front of a lens
and become part of the story itself.

It’s the same with adults.
We open up when we’re met without pressure.
That’s where the magic lives:
not in staging,
but in the living moments where connection quietly unfolds.

For me, the sweet spot is always a balance —
enough preparation to hold us steady,
enough openness to let play and breath in.
That’s my golden standard.

Because when we meet there,
a photograph is no longer just a picture for a frame —
it becomes part of the family’s story,
an imprint of presence,
where everyone feels connected,
important,
loved,
and real.

To all mothers — this is for you.

It really does take your everything to raise a human.
Your patience, your strength, your sleepless nights, your laughter, your tears.
And sometimes, it takes all of that times three.

I was honored to photograph this mom and her three children. What I saw was love in motion — joy, lightness, and so much goodness. They were a delight to be around, and a gift to capture.

To the mothers who hold it all together — I see you.
To the children who shine so brightly — you are the reason.
And to this family — thank you. It was an honor, always and forever.

✨ The days are long, the years are short.

Every parent knows this tender ache — the bittersweet pull of watching their children grow, transform, and change almost before our eyes.

As a mother, I stand in awe of it daily. Each laugh, each fleeting smile, each small expression that belongs to this very moment — gone in an instant, replaced by something new. I feel a deep, almost desperate longing to hold on… to keep these pieces safe before they vanish into memory.

This is why I love family photography with all my heart. Because it allows me to hold time still — not forever, but just long enough to return to it again. To give parents something to treasure: a glimpse of their child’s soul, captured in the wild rush of growing up.

It is, to me, the most precious gift I can offer — and I hope, just as precious to receive.

✨ What’s the little moment with your child you wish you could hold on to forever?
