Letâs talk consultationsđŁď¸
You did it! A new potential client found you and was interested enough that they messaged you, sent an email, or hit âsubmitâ on your inquiry form. You sent your welcome email that details out the need-to-know info before asking them to book a consultation about their project to go over those final details and answer questions. But are you sending a video link or an address?
Pre-2020, in-person consultations were the thing. That face-to-face connection was a powerful touchpoint in getting clients to book, and while that still can very much be the case, platforms like Zoom majorly changed how businesses operate, and in-person consultations have taken a backseat. While itâs obvious that virtual meetings can be a less costly investment from the business ownerâs end, itâs not just entrepreneurs that might prefer virtual over in-person. New leads may prefer phone or video calls for convenience, but also because it feels like less of a commitment. Saying, âYesâ or âNoâ to a proposal can feel a lot less daunting when the face theyâre saying it to is over a screen and not a table. Itâs also a lot easier to simply âghostâ a business if the proposal isnât for them.
But as business owners, itâs important that we ask ourselves whatâs going to move the needle most. Are we open to booking those over-coffee-conversations at the risk of expense and time to potentially book more qualified leads? Or does the virtual touchpoint allow us to meet with more people with lower risk?
I think the best answer ranges from business to business and strongly depends on the ideal client youâre trying to attract. So what do you think? Should consultations be in-person or virtual? Let me know your thoughts below!
