A juvenile California sea lion playfully interacts with divers at the dive site known as Lobster Shack on the Coronado Islands. Diving here during the fall creates some of the best large animal interactions you can find in San Diego. This is a great dive to leave your snorkel behind, as they occasionally will grab onto the snorkel and take your mask as their newest chew toy.

What a great day out with great friends. On one of my private offshore trips, we were lucky enough to encounter this huge mola mola in some of the bluest water I have seen off San Diego. Waterhorse Charters always does a fantastic job and today was no different.

Juicy strawberry anemones abound on the wreck of the Ruby E. This is definitely a site to take slow and really observe the density of macro life present on the structure.

I’ll be conducting a few underwater photo workshops this summer in San Diego. Lots of fun and lots of ways to be creative.

The American flag hangs from the HMCS Yukon. The vessel was decommissioned in 1993 and sunk as an artificial reef off the Southern California coast. The HMCS Yukon now lies in 100 feet (30m) of water within San Diego's wreck alley.

Garibaldi, Hypsypops rubicundus, swims in the shallows at Islas Coronados. These shallow sea grass beds serve as a nursery for many of our favorite Southern California sealife, including the state saltwater fish.

Relying primarily on ocean currents as a mode of transportation, we are rarely graced with these pelagic creatures close to shore. Its beautiful purple and pink color can be seen throughout the body and oral arms, which spanned 6 feet (2m).
