My other 3 entries into the International Pet Photography Awards received Silver and Bronze with Distinction!

1. The framing with the doorway in the background creates a lovely sense of depth and naturally draws the viewer’s attention to the subject. The harmonious colour palette complements the scene beautifully, while the dog’s sweet expression adds warmth and creates an immediate connection with the viewer. A small detail that could be refined is the slightly crooked collar, as straightening it would reduce a minor distraction and give the portrait an even more polished appearance. Overall, the image is well balanced and highly engaging.

2. This is such a fun image, and you have great connection with your subject. The dog being placed right in the nook of those red rocks gives the viewer’s eye a natural place to settle on your subject. You’ve done an excellent job managing your exposure in this image and keeping great detail in the sky while still keeping good exposure on the rest of the image. Overall, this is a lovely image. Congratulations!

3. This is a lovely lifestyle image, and it makes the viewer want to be right there on the beach. You’ve done a great job with your editing techniques and all the technical elements. This image could be slightly more impactful if you got a little bit lower, so that the wave wasn’t going right through the human’s head. Beautiful image, though. Congratulations!

I’m feeling happy with the results, especially since I don’t really think my style of photography tends to score well in image competitions. Thanks, judges!

After a few year hiatus, I decided this year I would enter a few photos into the International Pet Photography Awards. I was so excited about the newest category: Commissioned Portfolio.

My style of photography lends itself to telling the whole story of the dog and owner through variety in the poses and landscapes in my sessions and is oftentimes why the majority of my clients choose to invest in a photo album after their session. I don’t spend hours trying to get one hero image, but instead, love to capture not only the dog, but also the small, meaningful moments between dogs and their owners.

I was excited to submit two entries to this category, both from client sessions last year! It’s always eye opening to get feedback on my images and see what I can improve on going forward.

I’m super happy to say that my first entry received Silver and had encouraging feedback: “If there was ever an example of how to do a session in bright light and blue skies, it would be this. You are handling very bright and sometimes intense light masterfully. You are clearly careful with your fill light as much as you are about preserving your highlights, and it shows incredible skill. Every image feels warm and joyful, and I love that you included so many images of the dog together with his person. Pugs, by their brachycephalic head structure, can be a challenge to photograph without at some point finding bulging eyes or signs of breathing distress. This pug looks comfortable and happy; only images 2 and 5 have the tongue curling up a little, but the rest of the body language is confident and relaxed, which shows you are mindful in your editing and image selection. Not to mention, this dog clearly WAS happy and comfortable in his body, which instantly elevates your work. In terms of variety, and though I love them all, images 2, 3, and 7 are a little similar to one another, so that’s where I would encourage more variety. Choose your favorite of those and replace the other two with something different, like a tight detail shot or another sunset image. Beautiful work overall!”

My second entry received Bronze and I was given video feedback.

A little editing magic🪄

I always love seeing other photographers’ before and afters, so I thought I’d share a few of my own recent photos🤗 It’s amazing to see images come alive in post-processing!

It’s so fun to play with light, shadows, colors, gradients etc to make the photos turn into what I see when I’m at a session!

This girl always knows how to show up and strike a pose📸 I love when I get to see repeat clients, especially when they are as easy to photograph as Miss Kaia!

Rocky and Kobe💛💚

This adorable duo traveled all the way from LA for our first petite shared session at Balboa Park! We met bright and early at 7 am and they were ready to go😁 What handsome boys they are and I’m so happy we got to meet them (and mom and dad, too).

What do you think, should we do this again?!

Hart💜

Hart was another attendee at the first petite shared session at Balboa Park! I photographed her almost a year ago and it was so fun to see her again☺️ She was a happy and confident girl in front of the camera thanks to her amazing parents Training with Lindsay LLC! Her eyes just melt me🥹

Benny🩵

Benny attended the first petite shared session that we held at Balboa Park! As you can see, he came dressed for the occasion and ready to pose📸 Is he the most handsome pittie or what?!

These sessions were such a hit! It’s so fun to be able to get a variety of backdrops and images for you to choose from in a short amount of time☺️

In case you missed it, I’ll be hosting these every so often in different areas of San Diego! One location, 3 images included, 3 backdrops, 3-5 other dogs being photographed, $250. Let me know where we should go next!

The first petite shared sessions were a smashing success!👏

Thank you to everyone who attended this first one bright and early on Saturday morning! It went so smoothly thanks to amazing clients who were so respectful of other dog’s space and followed directions perfectly👌🏼 and the dogs who came were just😍😍😍

Photos coming soon…

So my question is…when I do this again, where should we go next?! Let me know in the comments!⬇️
